      NJ/NY R Drivers - EZ-Pass mounting?

Hey NJ/NY drivers...on your R where the heck do you mount your EZ-Pass device?

The configuration of the rear view mirror (it's huge!) on this car would force you to mount the device so low to be centered, that it's just unacceptable.

Do you all have the license plate mounted version of the EZ-Pass transmitter? I just can't see mounting regular one which would have to go practically in the middle (vertically and horizontally) on my windshield under the mirror!

What have the rest of you done? Right now, mine is riding in the dash cubby next to the radio...but that's just temporary.

Mine is just to the right and slightly behind the rear-view mirror and I've never had a problem. In that location, I really can't see it, so it's not in my way and the signal is picked up every time-unfortunately!

Same here, behind the black stuff. No problems with reception at all.

You can see it peeking out on the left side here behind the mirror, to the left of my V1.

Maybe I am making a big deal because I don't want it to be too visible...or ugly. I'm not too worried about the reception.

I've mounted mine to the right behind the mirror. I never see it, and you can't really see it from the outside either. Works just fine. I generally forget I have it until I need it.

i have mine mounted a few inches to the right of the rear view mirror and about 1 inch down from the top.

      Re: NJ/NY R Drivers - EZ-Pass mounting? (1800girl)

Technically, our cars do not qualify for a plate mount per EZPass guidelines. I wrote a letter stating I had a touring option with specially treated windows. Took two attempts, but they finally replaced my window mount with a plate mount.

Yes, sigh...I guess PA drivers can play too.

Maybe there's more room there than I thought. The housing around the base of the mirror mount seems so bulky.

Your E-ZPass tag is installed using fasteners that come with your tag. The tag should be installed approximately one inch below the top of your windshield above your rearview mirror. If there is not enough room above your mirror, the tag should be installed to the right of the mirror, approximately one inch below the top of your windshield. Be sure to read the E-ZPass Customer Guide that comes with your tag for detailed instructions on proper installation.

Lined up correctly with the mirror, it is essentially invisible from inside the car. I sometimes used masking tape to find an "invisible" spot to locate the pass, but I've had it on 5 or 6 cars and couldn't see it from inside the car, at least not to the extent that it was bothersome or intrusive.

      Oh, women......

Would I give you an ugly, visible location? No, of course not.

Only visible inside if your passenger is checking out the mirror.

Completely invisible from the outside. (Excuse the dirty windshield.

(P.S. Notice how well the Lexol conditioner works on the seats...that's 50k miles there! And the side bolster behind the seatbelt isn't worse!!!)

I have the EZ-Pass as well as the equivalents for the Texas toll-roads, SoCal, etc. I've used them on both my own P2 Volvos and on Hertz's and have never had a problem with the passes mounted behind the black sunblock stuff.

I too keep mine on the passenger side out of my line of sight.

      Gone: 1994 850 Turbo, 1998 S70 T5, 1999 S80 T6, 2001 V70 T5, 2003 XC90 T6, 2004 S60R Ata

I keep my "FastTrak" (it's called here in SoCal) in the vertical slot next to my HU and I never use it, they just bill me by my license plate number.

I didn't do this on my S60R but an option is to get the license plate mounted EZ pass and mount it on the front of the radiator behind the grill w/ zip ties. I will try and dig up some pics. Nice and hidden....never had any issues.

That is a great idea, and it worked well on my 2000 Passat wagon, where you could pop the grill with a good tug to access the plate-type tag. It doesn't seem so easy on the V70.
Also, occasionally I will get a misread at the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. They use gates, and an officer will use a mobile scanner to read the barcode on the tag and then grant passage. If they cannot scan (ie no access to tag) there is a $2.50 service fee!. "Extra paperwork", they say.

Ironically i had a misread outside of NYC (I can't remember where exactly) and the guy came running out to scan my pass. I explained where it was and he said "give me the cash so I can get these people to stop honking at you."

I have a 2006 V70R and it is mounted to the lower right side of that black spot on the windshield.

I basically sat in the driver's seat and placed it on the window until I could not see it anymore.

Never had an issue with it not working.

On my 1996 850, I mounted it even higher...bordering the top tint (or whatever you call the top of the windshield where it is tinted) and I never had an issue with it their either.

Yes it will, but in NY some of the tolls have the bars that rise when you drive through them and if it doesn't register it immediately, you get stuck in the toll...now the capper...they give you a ticket right there on the spot.

It MUST be mounted in NY, not sure about other states.

It's easier in CA, it works in my glove box. And here FastTrak will scan license plates and charge you via that if you have no transponder or it cannot be read, no gates. It's great for visitors, hand then your transponder and they get billed by your transponder, you get billed with your plates. It's a win-win.

I had the windshield mount but, after I got my windshield tinted it would not work anymore. They gave me the license plate mount. I looks so much better the box in the window looks junky and takes away from the appearance of the car.

i would get the one that attached to the license plate bracket - if you have a front plate. otherwise, one of those suction cup holders to place on the windshield...it's not that big.
