Thread: S80 High Performance Concept (SEMA Content)?

  1. 09-09-2007 02:59 PM #1
So I saw the most rad S80 on the planet today. I'm in Frankfurt for the Auto Show and apparently Heico and Volvo Germany are bringing one of this upcoming year's SEMA cars to the show. I am staying tonight across the street fromt he convention center and I spotted them unloading a silver S80 with a really cool wide body kit (not garish at all), a new Heico wheel design and what looks like integrated Audi S6 LED driving lights.

Yes, I did take a pic, however I'm going to hold off on publishing it until Heico and Volvo have a chance to show it first. They clearly put a lot of work into it and I don't want to steal their thunder any more than I already have with this post.

You guys are going to LOVE it.

    Why must you tease

You could prolly get a few $ for a great spy shot like that in advance of it debut and you would certainly get big props from the SS community for giving us the sneak peak!

TIA & have a safe trip!

Nice to know that swedespeed guys are in Frankfurt for the Show. I am looking forward to see some Volvo pictures in the Forum.

One small request: I heard Getrag will show off all the new powershift transmission at Frankfurt. If it is not much to ask, It will be great to have a set of pictures of what next Volvo double clutch transmission will look like.

I'll make sure to get down to the OE hall and get some pics of that. Thanks for the reminder.

BTW, if I'm in Frankfurt and so is the car, you gotta figure pics will be up shortly. Here's a hint. Tomorrow's the first day of press days.

    C'mon George.
I'm sure no one would care if a few diehard Volvo enthusiats would see a picture a few days before everyone else
If they wanted it hidden, the car would have been covered.
Spy shots are the bones of car shows and new cars, besides who the heck cares about a tricked Volvo except US, their market!

According to Volvo, the car destined for Las Vegas is a high performance S80 wearing a heavily tuned bioethanol powered turbocharged 6-cylinder unit

Why did it have to be a T6 and it couldn't be a V8?

Volvo S80 High Performance version flexes its muscles at SEMA in Las Vegas

German tuning and motor sport experts Heico Sportiv has developed a spectacular high-performance version of the Volvo S80.

With a high-tech aluminium-look exterior and a 350 hp bioethanol engine, the S80 High Performance Concept is destined to be a true attention-grabber at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

"We wanted to explore how far we could take a special high-performance version of the S80. Heico Sportiv's impressive track record in motor sports and Volvo tuning made them the perfect partner for the job," says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Brand, Business and Product Strategy at Volvo Cars. He adds:

"Personally, I think the result is absolutely stunning. Both when it comes to the exterior and interior design as well as the impressive muscle under the bonnet."

The turbocharged T6 engine has been modified to run on E85 (85 percent bioethanol,15 percent petrol) - a biofuel that is becoming increasingly widely available throughout Europe.

The T6 engine in the Heico S80 High Performance Concept boasts around 350 horsepower at 5500 rpm and a massive 550 Nm of torque between 1500 and 4000 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will take around 5.8 seconds.

"The engine development is not yet finalized, so we hope to reach an even higher horsepower figure when the car is ready for SEMA," says Heico Sportiv's president Holger Hedtke.

All Wheel Drive and sports suspension

The Heico S80 High Performance Concept features Volvo's electronically controlled All Wheel Drive system with Instant Traction. The car also has specially developed sport suspension.
New shocks and springs lower the chassis by 40 millimetres. The 6-pot sport brake system has blue callipers featuring the Heico Sportiv logo, sports brake pads and 355x32 mm discs.

The specially developed 20-inch VOLUTION®X. forged alloy wheels are shod with 255/30R20 tyres from Continental.

"When it comes to the driving experience, we aimed at tuning all the components so we get
a dynamic yet harmonious result. In other words, a true sports car experience without losing

the luxurious and comfortable touch that is the hallmark of the S80," says Holger Hedtke.

    Spectacular aluminium-colour effect

The exclusive aluminium metal-effect colour of the Heico S80 High Performance Concept radiates a distinctive technical look.

"To bring out the shiny, "real metal" effect was a major challenge. This type of paint is normally not used to cover a whole car. All told, the bodywork features seven coats of paint. The coat that gives the aluminium effect doesn't allow any touch-ups afterwards, so you have to get it right from the beginning. The whole process takes two weeks," says Holger Hedtke.

All other parts, such as the tailpipe trim, window mouldings, front grill and rub strips are coated with matte finish black chrome.

All body parts are handcrafted. The car's body kit has redesigned wide skirts all round.

The front features integrated spoiler flaps, three larger air ducts, integrated LED daytime running lights and an integrated sport grille with the Volvo iron mark.

The exhaust system is made of stainless steel throughout and the exhaust tailpipes are integrated into the wide rear spoiler. There is also a rear deck spoiler.

    Mystic Blue interior

The bespoke interior has full high-quality leather in Mystic Blue with matching blue stitching and Heico Sportiv logo, both on the sport-contoured front seats and the two individual "bucket" seats
in the rear. The safety belts and floor-mats are also blue.

There is a sports steering wheel trimmed in leather and a leather-trim gear lever with a silver carbon accent.

The extended floating centre stack is covered with silver carbon fibre. The centre stack also features integrated controls for the rear seat entertainment system and a storage space with

a handmade blind. All decorative trim elements are made of silver carbon fibre.

The illuminated entrance trim in stainless steal and glass features the Heico Sportiv logo.

    Volvo dealer since 1989

The Hedtke Volvo dealership in Weiterstadt, Germany, opened in 1989.

The company entered the motor sport scene in 1995 and over the years Heico Sportiv has developed one of the world's most exclusive tuning programmes based on Volvo cars.

"We are very pleased that Volvo Cars has given us the opportunity to design a concept car that profiles the sporty emotions of the brand and still remains true to the company's core values.
Just like the C30 "Camo" we designed for SEMA last year, the S80 High Performance Concept represents the very best of our long experience of Volvo tuning and motor sports," says Holger Hedtke.

The SEMA (Speciality Equipment Manufacturers Association) show in Las Vegas is open between 30 October and 2 November 2007. SEMA is the biggest automotive specialty products trade event in the word.

    HAWT!!

    I like the whole package!!!

It'd be nice to know what they did to the engine to get those performance gains.

    paint color
better side bolsters on front seats
    rims
body kit (the sides) maybe a bit too much for me but I'm definitely for the front and rear bumpers
    mesh grille
rear spoiler better execution than Evolve

I am in total awe. And madly in love with that Heico S80. Every single thing about it. From the amazing work on the color to every detail of the body kit, from the bolstered seats, to the LED's and to those astonishingly beautiful wheels!!!

But 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph, right?) in 5.8? That's even slower than a stock V8 according to Road & Track?

  19. 09-10-2007 01:01 PM #19
AWESOME! Of course, nothing less should be expected from Heico!

I only do not approve of the front LEDs; they seem like a "me-too" copying from Audi.

    I love the blue interior!!!

Yannis, they clearly are, but I personally don't see anything wrong with imitating good things. All manufacturers do it to certain extent. I agree, in this case, it's like a carbon copy.

Right, like they're interested in the enthusiast market. The R is a perfect example.

    Freaking impressive.

Only thing I'd change is ditch the blue interior color for wholesome p0rno red--just like an old Merc 300SL.

I am not so much concerned with the power,as I am with the design.
I think the design elements of the car are far better than the original.
Part of the issue w/ the S80 is the bland exterior.

Forgive the ignorant - but how much this kind of modifications can cost?

    Exterior?
    Interior?
    Engine, suspension and wheels?

    Ball park idea....

I'm pretty sure that this car was HEICO's T6 test mule to analyze mods for the engine so in all aspects; I'd say that the car is priceless. If you were to value the price of the car plus all the labor and materials; we're probably looking at a $300k car; and quite possibly more.

    Uh, Dayum.

    That is one sweet effort.

Only thing I don't like is that center console in the rear. Without changing the seats to true buckets, it looks kind of cheesy.

GascoS80: I would have to say that there are some things on this car you'll see from Heico, and some you won't.

    Wheels: probably.
    Side skirts: maybe.
    Rear wing: yes.
    Rear fascia: probably not.
    Wheel arches: probably not.
    Custom interior bits: probably.
    Custom leather: maybe.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Lots of blood and sweat over in Germany on this one...very nice to hear that a lot of you approve of the design direction...very fine line...easy to go a notch too far, or not quite far enough with these concept cars.

I believe I can discuss this starting tomorrow, but let me check that before I open my big fat mouth.

Thanks again. Will add detail when I can...prob tomorrow.
