Hey everyone. First-time poster here. A few months ago I purchased a '05 S40 T5 AWD with the 6MT. It has been a great car so far. I am looking for more power, but don't want to get involved too heavily with modifying it. So...I stumbled upon a chip tuning company called Upsolute. I performed a search here and there is very little mentioned about it. So my question is, what are the pros and cons with an Upsolute tune? I was quoted $500 for a result of 260 hp and 288 ft lbs tq. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated

well a long long time ago. in a city far far away. (auburn,wa). i was told that my local tuner shop could do this and even tweak it. to make a long story short they could get the hardware or something to do it.

Has anyone got an Upsolute tune?I had one on my old (2001, previous generation) S40, and it was a great tune except the tuner didn't solder the EEPROM back in right the first time and it died on the interstate. If they can flash via OBD-II it'd sound a bit safer.
'05 S40 T5 AWD M66 sport/winter/electronic warfare packages. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. 6000k 50w low beam conversion.

Well, I've done a bit of research on this company and they seem very professional and confident about the quality and results of their product. The gas millage bit is true, but depends 100% on your driving habits. If you're light footed, the extra power will require less pedal to get the same acceleration so you use more gas. If you're like me, the extra power will make you giddy every time you give it gas, and you end up burning more because you floor it around every single possible corner and straight-away. This tends to apply for all tunes.

Id hold out for awhile and wait to see how much the Unichip setup will be, for a few hundred more the ability to change and alter your tune is worth way more than one time tune...

Great. Thanks for the replies everyone. But I would still like to know what the pros and cons of chip tuning are as I have no experience with this. Our winters here in Montreal get VERY cold, and I've heard from someone who tuned the chip in his C30 that his car doesn't run very smoothly during the colder months. So, has anyone heard of any other potential issues that I should be aware of?

Thats more than likely due to not compensating for denser cooler air in the winter months and also dealing with much colder start ups. With the unichip you would be able to have multiple maps you could load at any time. One of which could be a winter colder climate tune which you would just data log when the outside temp was low. If you dont have the experience to tune yourself theres plenty of tuners in your area that can. Im pretty sure my boy Agtronic Motorsport is in your area

I don't know if I'd go with a Unichip for this... It's not exactly "quick and clean" since it almost always requires a dyno to tune it, is never "done", and has a billion different settings that most people don't give a poop about. It's retarded to pay for a tuner with a stock car and a unichip...OTS tunes do have an appeal... 20 minutes and never worry about it again. No box to install and mount, no power leads to find and tap, no need to even pop the hood. Maybe it's just me, but I want my car running just as well after the mods as before. That takes a *lot* of work and time (or money) with the Unichip, and it's just not worth it for anything less than a turbo upgrade. Just my $0.02.

Havent heard anything good about them unless you own a BMW ... Having one tune or having the option to run different tunes at any time ... Hmm i say Uni chip !

I could see that as well, especially if the customer doesnt plan to future mod past the tune. If he does however I think its stupid to have to pay for another "stage" map when you could just pull up your laptop and tweak. And for those that dont have the knowledge that require a tuner... street tunes are cheap and designed to function on the street. Dyno tuning would be ideal for peak power but ive had two street tunes and dyno'd later and made awesome power. Made 363whp after a street tune and 393whp after some changes on the dyno Just gotta find a reasonable priced tuner like Dave Lee

At this point its up to the tuner to check out the SW and see how they feel about it. Im going to show Dave and see what he thinks, hes usually up for anything which some are and some arent.
