 Volvo Winter Promotion - Costco

http://www.costcoauto.com/volvo/

Purchase a Volvo XC60, XC70 or XC90 between November 3, 2009, and January 4, 2010, to receive:

* Volvo employee pricing for the XC60
* $500 off Volvo employee pricing for the XC70 and XC90
* All available customer rebates and dealer incentives

Plus, receive a $500 Costco Cash Card for completing a Costco Auto Program Survey after your purchase.

The reason I ordered my R-Design

So I take it you believe that this is a good deal. The incentives are a given, presuming the prospective customer has done a modicum of research, and the invoice is only a marker, so I guess the question is can you get what you want for more than a $1,000 below invoice or not. If you can get more than a thousand off, the Costco deal doesn't do you any good and you are better off on your own. I presume you were not in that situation.

I would have thought that in this economy etc, etc, one could do better on their own, but I am willing to be corrected.

The promotion was better last year, $1000 rebate plus the $500 COSTCO gift card.

Though separate from this deal, I think there are a couple more incentives active that can be combined:

$500 cash to dealer
$1500 loyalty bonus (admittedly not applicable to all)

So then you're talking about $2500 off of invoice and perhaps a year of free gas ($500 costco card). Throw in extended care (maintenance & warranty deal). Seems pretty good to me.

A year free of gas I would say, 3 months free of gas.

The original post says the Costco promotion is in ADDITION to all applicable incentives. The two you have mentioned, therefore, do not change the equation.

Right. There are $2000 available in separate incentives. The Costco adds another $500 to that (on the xc70 & xc90). Thus, $2500 of employee pricing.

And the fuel bill on my VR runs about $45.00/month with an average /gallon price of $2.60. 45x12=$540. Hence, approximately a year's worth of fuel. (A generous extimate, perhaps, but difficult to account for all driving styles & distances).

You use 17 gallons of fuel per month? That's one fillup! So you're driving about 250-300 miles / month, because at that rate, you can't be getting very good mileage. So less than 5k miles / year.

Must be nice......

I might have fudged my numbers a little. I actually do around 300 miles a month. But then usually a couple of times a year there is a 2-3000 mile road trip (something I factor separately from my routine gas consumption; that's a "vacation" or "work" budget line item). So I still average 10k a year.

Bought 6/06 with 18k; 11/09 shows 54k. So 36k in 40 months.
