First picture on the new C70

But in the article they call it C40?

http://expressen.se/index.jsp?a=290816

The car looks ok, given the platform they had for the design.

That looks legit!

Dare I say, is it real!?!?!?!

If so, I've been drooling waiting for this picture for 3 years.

That's what I was thinking too, but it's actually just the wheels that make it look like that.

I think it's something about the taillights that makes it look a bit Sebring-ish, but I bet from any other angle that goes away.

I like it. It does look real, doesn't it?

The back of the car looks like the real deal.
I'd have to see the front to be sure.

Looks like the real deal to me too. Unfortunately you can't see some of the design details at the rear and obviously can't see the details at the front. Some of those details make the car look far more dramatic than this photo shows and further differentiates it from the current Sebring.

It looks real because of several little details.

1. The overall size of the car looks smaller
2. There is a distinct shoulderline visible
3. The front is noticeably different
4. The back taillights are noticably different

The wheels that are on the car are the test wheels. I'm almost 90% sure the wheels you see on that picture are not going to be on the 07+ MY line-up. As they were the euro-spec base model wheel for 03-04.

I'm sure with a nice set of 18", this car will look amazing

Those wheels are not ones we've seen yet. Based on their smaller diameter, my guess it that they would be the standard wheel on the C70 2.4i.

Hi Tom,

Interesting pix's the new C70! From what my buddy at the Superior Volvo store here in K.C. told me, the rear lights looked more like an S60 then what i see in the red pix.
We are hoping that Volvo brings the tentative ads to Kansas City in Sept. to show at the VCOA meeting here. From what I read in another column, there's been some leaks in the test model roof as well as crashability problems. One of the national car magazines had a brief article on the new convertible, and they thought it would be an '06 version. Just when they will really produce the car remains to be seen!
What do they say in the Army.....'hurry up and wait!"

With the experience Volvo had with the original C70, they are making damn sure that there will not be any issues with the new C70 as far as top operation is concerned, etc. With regards to the crashworthiness of this new car, it is my understanding that they are perfecting some new safety features which have never been seen before, not actual problems per se. I'm glad they are taking their time and making it right before it hits showrooms.

Considering the S40 NOT Best Side Impact performance in IIHS testing (the much cheaper Jetta made the S40 look average) I am concerned about a pillarless 2-door car on this platform.

Volvo DID NOT want to use Focus platform for the S40 - they wanted the Mondeo/Jaguar X-Type platform but Ford bean counters forced them to use the Focus platform.

Volvo needs to step up its game - the Death stats aren't showing Volvo with a signficant safety lead over Toyota or even Hyundai in some car size categories. I am pissed over all the quality issues that I am hearing in the S40 forum - makes it hard (impossible ?) to recommend Volvo products to my family when they can get a Toyota or Hyundai that is just as safe.

Just hope you don't get rear ended in one The Jetta didn't do very well there.

They are without a doubt some of, if not the safest cars out there. If I was told to pick a car to crash in, I would choose a Volvo everytime.

There is no doubt some S40's are having problem's but it is only a small amount.

The new C70 is essentially going to be a two-door S40 with the roof chopped off. Whether or not you like the S40's looks is strictly up to personal taste.

But the vehicle itself, however, will be SIGNIFICANTLY better than the previous generation C70 convertible. The chassis is going to be much better, handling and performance will be better. This will definitely be a very desirable convertible. Especially in the T5 AWD 6-speed version.

The P1 platform from which the S40/V50/C70 are derrived was originally designed with the intention of building a convertible. This alone will make it FAR stronger than the original C70 would EVER be.

Judging by the length of the hood, doesn't look like we'll be dropping a 4.4L in there anytime soon

That would be one nose-heavy son of a gun! I personally like the idea of a 260hp five cylinder motor.
