Also, how did you mount them in there? Did you use glue or double sided adhesive, like 3M? I wouldn't think it could handle the heat in there, but I may be wrong.

Yet again, another question, How did you get the wires through that grommet?

Actually, my question was whether you had removed the parking/citylights after the mod, not what you hooked the mod up to.In any case, I'm sure the LEDs could take power from the citylight socket, even if the W5W is still in it. I think it's an unregulated 12V, not PWM-modulated like the halogen headlights too. Tom.

It seems that you beat me to every mod I can think of lol. Whens the next time you coming down to the in-laws. From what Gina has told me the car pulls like no other with the exhaust and chip. Actually saying mine is slow compared to yours (wouldn't hurt as much if she just said its slow.)

S40T5Lover I did just use 3M double sided tape. You can see it in the pics. I don't think heat would be a problem... I hope not. I haven't turned my HID yet. To get the wires through the grommet, I popped the grommit off. Then I taped the new wires to the existing wire and pulled it through. Sorry tmtalpey, a little misunderstanding. I didn't disable anything. My DRL is updated to stay off. bopmychimbeech Haha, funny. I usually just go down to Palacios when there is some kind of religious event. My car's not fast enough. Sis in law just hasn't been in cars with aggressive drivers. Hopefully the intercooler and future downpipe will fix that.

So I just want to clarify... that I CAN just wire the LED strips to the driving lights? Do I have to splice the wires? or can I just like wrap the wire around the socket?..... I haven't looked at it yet so I am not sure.

You can do anything you want. It's a simple electric circuit (if I am understanding what you are asking correctly). You ground to a ground and run a "+" from any source you want, taillamp, brake light, turn signal, battery, etc... Two wires. If this is a difficult concept (not to be an ass), you should probably leave your car as-is and let your mechanic worry about keeping it running...

FYI... madd matt had some problems when he installed the led's to the parking lamps. His CEM burned out(not completely), so I don't know if you want to risk yours. It might have been just the way he got them wired. Either way, you might want to find a different power source to avoid the CEM. P.S. don't forget to throw in a current limiting resistor in there somewhere. It's impossible to find perfectly identical LEDs because of slight imperfections during manufacturing process which results in slight variations in voltage drop and current draw. These slight variations could result in unpredictable behavior if hooked up to a straight power source(w/o dropping resistor).

What is the CEM? Could I run them from the driving lights, and then put a fuse on it?

CEM(central electronics module) which is located inside the cabin by the passenger side kickpanel, under the dash. Driving lights are powered through cem also, but IMO it think it's a better bet then parking lights since it was designed to handle more power(55watts for halogen bulbs vs 10w? for parking lights) If you got aftermarket HID's , though, you might want go straight to the battery. Hid's put alot of strain on CEM during warm-up(up to 150watts), + the oem 16-18?gauge wires can't really stand up to much abuse before melting. Your best bet is to avoid CEM when wiring your new toys/gadgets. Better be safe than sorry.

Just an update. I ordered the 48 LED from ebay and cut them to length. I have different problem now. The colors don't match. The one on the passenger side has a greener tint. I think the light was brighter when I tested it. So heads up to anyone thinking of this mod.

FYI, Looks like you can pick up the angle eyes from sharphid.com too. Not specific for the S40 but they say "These are very popular with BMWs and Mazdas and I have kits avalable for both. I have many sizes available for those who are looking to retro fit these into other headlights." Matt

Thanks, I'm always glad to help and share. One info I think everybody should know is that these LEDs burn out easily. They don't seem to last very long until one or more LEDs start failing. I tried a different LEDs but they failed too. If anybody know where to get high quality, long lasting 5mm LEDs, please let me know. Here is the other version I tried, but the LEDs seem to burn out after time too:

LEDs typically last a really long time, but in the case of homemade angel eyes I'm sure the short life is caused by the high temperatures of the 55W HID bulb inches away with no protection.I would say find some high temp LEDs on Digikey, they will likely last longer. If you request a Digikey catalog it is like 8 lbs and 1300 pages, one of the best electronics suppliers in the world. http://search.digikey.com/scri...words=

True, LED's are very sensitive to heat - but the problem is probably that they are being over-driven (as they are ALSO very sensitive to that as well). I'd try using a resistor with a higher resistance, or if you want to be a baller, use a PWM circuit. Check out http://www.hidplanet.com 's LED forums for cheap sources of pre-made PWM circuits.
