View Full Version : Three Blinks

One thing I forgot to mention in the road tests of the S40 is that it has a 3-blink turnsignal like newer Audis. If you move the turnsignal to one side, without going fully into it being on, rather than blink as long as you hold it in that position, it blinks three times if you just hit it for one blink. Pretty cool.

Awesome! That is one of my favorite features of my A4. It's hard to describe how useful this feature really is... to those of us that signal our lane changes

It's a great feature I have gotten very used to in our VWvortex Project A4 Avant, and I'm happy to see it making its way into Volvos. It's a nice touch for those of us who enjoy driving IMHO.

Makes sense to me. Wish all cars had that.

Maybe things are different in Europe and the US but in Canada you must start signaling a lane change before you turn the wheels and stop after the change is complete.
One, or even three, little flash from the turn signal is not enough to inform others of your motives. Maybe for the person directly behind you but not the one behind that person who decides its time to pass everyone.
IMO, a signal should blink 10-20 times from lane change start to finish. Thus I do not see the value in this feature.

Here in MA its a miracle to actually find someone who uses a turn signal. I think the 3-blinks feature is a step in the right direction.

in most states you have to let your blinker flash atleast 3 times before you change lanes.

Looks like i'm in the minority here, since i hate the auto 3blink feature. I drove an A4 for several months and found it annoying. Here's why:
when i change lanes, i hold down the stalk for as long as my lane change, then let it spring back up on its own; that makes it easy to stop the signal if i decide not to change lanes -- and in city traffic, many lane changes are quickly aborted. With the auto 3blink, the signal keeps going even after an aborted maneuver - thus, if you start changing and another car moves into the lane, the blinker just keeps going. That defeats the purpose for me. Otherwise, it's nice.

Plus all those folks who stop at intersections and not signal!
This will be a great feature. Like Duett, I currently hold my stalk down until I move over (flashes depends on the traffic for me). It's just a learning curve we have to get over. It's going to be a nice feature to have when used properly.
