Ok here's the set-up. Here I am: I am a 32 y/o professional male with a Master's from a great university (University of Southern California). I have my mind and heart on my next automobile (my first automobile was a 1998 Honda CR-V EX that was involved in a automobile accident approximately 3 weeks ago)-a 2005 Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works option(in addition to slew of additions that inflated the price of the Mini to upwards of $34,000-no kidding!!).
Along come the 2004.5 S40 Volvo and from what I've read and seen I'm very impressed. My configured S40 comes out to the same price as my beloved Mini Cooper (did I mention I love the interior of the 2005 Audi A6?!?). Yes, I'm afraid my Mini Cooper will be just a glimmer in my eyes.
Volvo has done good in marketing the new S40. I am their customer. I am afraid they've done a good job in getting a younger, first time Volvo customer into their dealerships. I honestly did not see myself as Volvo customer!!! Now I am just waiting for their 2005 S40 to come out with AWD so I can take it up to the mountains when I go skiing (how cool is that a S40 with a ski rack on the roof-blasting Joy Division, Miles Davis and Cafe Tacuba on the auto's stereo system ).
if only I had an extra $34,000 lying around!

Since both of you are from Southern California, did either of you see the review of the new S40 in the Los Angeles Times recently?
Here is the link:
/
It's titled "Herr Doktor, Your Ride is Here" and it's overwhelmingly positive, but there do seem to be a few annoying aspects to the car this reviewer complained about that I hope they address in the near future. I'm sure we'll hear much more about the car, especially the AWD version, as they start to hit the streets.
Jim
