.
I dunno .... happy to be ahead of Volvo in profit, sales and customer satisfaction perhaps? But I agree with the "congrats"!

I was referring to them not being even nominated with their "brand new fresh Q7 design"

sorry everyone, my mistake. I think I was overexcited. I thought the award was going to all of the three cars.
anyway, I'm not sure if this thing stands a chance against the XC90:

lol i'm in agreement. The only car that has a chance against us is the C-class. I always felt the juries have a bias towards German cars when you look at the history and in other categories. How can I not think c-class is just another miniature s-class?

I really like the look of the Cactus, shame it's got all that style to be such a cheap offering. Citroen has got a great history of making fabulous looking people-carriers like the DS5.

2012 Model:

As for the C-Class, all I see is the same blandness that the new S-Class has brought, only with a really oddly tall trunk...

Should I be ashamed that I find the Cactus kinda cool looking....for what it is? I can see this selling just fine. It might be different for the sake of different, but it's not bizarrely styled IMO. Perhaps something other than yellow would be more favorable for some. I find some of the Lexus models to actually be worse than this car.

It is cute but I am not sure if such shape would sell other places. Maybe French are more open to non-mainstream designs. So I don't think it would be an ideal _world_ car design award winner.

Its compressed air hybrid powertrain is more interesting though. Not sure how practical it really is. It is certainly small, but at some area that slopes are quite common, stuck slow on a slope would be quite disappointing.

interestingly, the XC90 is nominated in the design category and NOT in the green category.

Not at all, I saw one yesterday and all I can say it looks really good, very unique and rugged, more expensive than it really is! Would I buy one? No, the intrinsic qualities of the car is what really matters to me; but lots of people will, so well done to the French in creating something different once again...

Or even overall car of the year. Anyone knows if you can only be nominated in one category? Edit: Turns out you can. The BMW i8 is nominated twice.

I did as well. Since when is the S-class hybrid so great? And also, how is the Passat (of all things...) nominated for Best Overall Car and not the XC90?

What I feel from the award list is:
for overall best car, it has to be popular, so not expensive model.
for green car, it has to be pure ev, though the environment challenge of power plant is also big.
for design car, it can go more wild and has to look unique, outstanding or exotic. Also don't know if interior counts.

Kinda like the Cactus for being original without being weird. So many original French designs are weird.

The MB doesn't do much for me though.

maybe the XC90 T8 is not nominated in green category since it wasn't actually on the market, yet?

Regardless, there is no way the XC90 is going to beat the I8 from a "green" perspective, I don't think

if the I8 has beaten the Tesla (which was not nominated), no other car can beat it, IMO

the Mercedes is not pure EV

Also, I just realized the photos are of the "top 3" - not the only cars nominated in each category. So the Tesla might be nominated in the Green category, contrary to my prior post re the Tesla and the I8
