Talk about trying to find the leper with most fingers!<p>I have heard good things about Barrington Volvo, but they are way out there. I have also heard good things about Shepard.<p>My IM likes the service dept at Highland Park Volvo, I am not as impressed, was told "they all do that" for sumthin that Orloff fixed right away. Haynes manual confirmed HPV didn't tell the truth.<p>I have found Orloff to be good and very exspensive. My IM duzn't like them at all.<p>Grossinger is a nasty organization from top to bottom.<p>Fields once tried to steal a part of a deposit by only refunding half. Heard other bad things about them.<p>If you are looking for an IM, where are you located? I have used House of European Auto Repair for almost 20 years. On the north side on Ridge avenue. Swedish Engineering in Schaumburg, Hubbard Woods Motors and Frei also have good reputations.<p>Hope this helps.<p>

Laurel Volvo is good but pricey<p>Grossinger to be avoided at all cost . Horrible!!!!!! Boy do I have a story! A bunch of Jerks with no morals.<p>Barrington is pretty far.<p>Orloff , good but expensive.<p>Fields - Lets not go there.<p>If you want an independent Volvo repair facility there are 2 that are exceptional. If you are near the North Shore , try Hubbard Wood motors in Winnetka. They have ben servicing Volvos for 40 years now. If you are in the northwest, try Swedish Car specialist in Schaumburgh

I wanna hear your Grossinger story. Here's a couple more:<p>I am standing at the parts counter and two sales manangers are speaking to each other. I can tell they are sales managers (or Finnance guys) cuz they are are dressed to the nines. One sez to the other "I want to be the phuker not the phukee". I would have fired them for allowing a customer to overhear this stuff.<p>But this is the dealer whose Toyota dealership was cited by the Il Attorney General cuz they advertised no existant Toyotat models, like a Camry SST. Other Toyota dealers complained to the AG.

no story yet. during the three or so years when i had my v70awdr 99-2003 they went from trying hard and spotty to not giving a crap and horrid and then back again. that car was reasonably reliable though. so far so good, since i've had no need for service yet<br>

I think they got in trouble with Volvo for awhile, back when they were forced to move the Volvo dealership back to a stand alone shop and out of the Autoplex. Probably changed the service manager and was gung ho for a couple of months.

I guess that depends where you are. Barrington is the closest Volvo dealer to me, I am on the second volvo from them now. Always have had good service.<p>Don't forget Swedish Car Specialists in Schaumburg, been there too, no complains.

My father in law likes Barrington. He 1st tried Fields in Schaumburg but walked out, saying; "they seemed real strange". Swedish is excellent, I'd use him if I were closer. I would also try Barrington if they were near by, but they ain't.

Actually it's Patrick in Schaumburg, and yes, I walked out of there too in 1999. Went straight to Barrington, bought a car 10 minutes later. No BS, no discussion, no regrets. Didn't even shop around last month, went in, chose a silver s60, got the price, no BS no discussions, picked it up the following weekend and now enjoying my ride.

Funny that this should be the only thread in this forum<p>This is exactly the information I'm looking for. I have not yet taken the plunge, but am seriously considering buying my first Volvo. I live in Palatine, so Barrington would be the obvious choice. I'm hoping the fact that there weren't any horror stories about the place is a positive sign. Can anybody share any specific stories about service there?<p>Anybody both a frequent user of Barrington Volvo and Motor Werks? (for comparison purposes)<p>As you can see from my postings count, I'm new to this forum. Last summer I was spending most of my time on the Mini forum, then decided it just wasn't the car for me. However, they have a specific dealer ratings forum or thread -- broken down by state and dealer. Is there such a beast here?

I'm not familiar with their service yet, but as far as their sales people, I just had a great experince ordering a new 2005 S60R from Patrick Volvo in Schaumberg. I ordered it through the Costco program, and got it ordered the way I wanted it at invoice. The sales guy was very helpful with no BS. In and out in 15 minutes.<p>Now I wait for the fun to begin around Thanksgiving when the car is due in. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="" BORDER="0">

Make sure it comes with all the parts installed. A co-worker of mine picked up a t5 over there last year, it came without floormats. He asked them what the deal was and the sales guy told him that they are optional and he didn't purchase them. When he pressed the sales guy further, the coughed up the floormats telling him the "forgot" to put them in.

Regarding your question as to why?<p>A. Treat their employees like crap.<br>B. Numerous lies to customers, like steering them away from in demand cars to other by saying that their credit was approved by BMW and Saab, but not Caddie when a new Cad was hot.<br>C. The car in the service dept that fell off the lift.<br>D. The fight I saw tween a mech and the service mgr.<br>E. Major emphasis on useless profit pads like paint protector and Rocky Mountain Radar jammers.<br>F. Refusing to heat the showrooms above 65 degrees in the winter, saying it was for the convenience of the customers who would otherwise overheat in their winter coats.<p>Starting to get the general idea?<p>

Sounds like you have some issues here. My limited experience with patrick Volvo so far has been fine. Low pressure sales, great price, no haggle - just buy at dealer invoice.<p>But............I 'm not done yet so thanks for the heads up <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://**********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0">

I've been to all the dealerships in Chicagoland and further. After 6 months of investigating for a honest and friendly dealership, I've choosen to purchase from Shepard/Oak Park Volvo. The sales persons were all pretty honest and very friendly. This one sales person named George Bodnar assisted me on all types of questioning about the XC90. He helped with the knowledge of me working with another sales person. Most wouldn't lift a finger knowing that I was working with someone else. The worst was Patrick and Barrington. The best deal for extended warranty was in Highland Park. <p>My list for service centers are: (1 for best, 8 worst)<br>1. Oak Park (best and Great Hrly rate)<br>2. Grossinger's<br>3. Highland Park<br>4. Volvo of Lisle<br>5. Laurel volvo in Tinley<br>6. Patrick<br>7. Fields<br>8. Brian Bemis in Dekalb<br>8. Orloff
