Hey Kai, in light of your ample new power gains on the C70, I was curious if you ever considered a limited slip differential. I know Heico has one, and it's possible that the folks at Quaife of America do also (or at least access to one that might be applicable). Have you given it any thought, or does the car seem to cope well without it.
George,
Thanks for the comments on the other threads.
Yes, I indeed considered the LSD from either Heico, SAM, or just go to Quaife directly. That component has been on my mind ever since I thought about doing any go fast upgrades. The torque steer at turns makes the car less civil than it needs to be.
I believe the unit that Heico is carry is the same one that SAM has, seeems to be like that for their other parts as well.
I'm not too sure about the 'SureTrac' brand, only heard about it once before. As for Quaife, it goes without saying they have some of the best race tranny components out there, at least for European car market.
However, since the car was left in that shop for so long, I did not want to let them have any excuse than they could already make up.
I decided to upgrade both the flywheel and the LSD at the last. Say...maybe 1~2 yrs down the road.
I'm pretty sure the upgrade clutch can at least prevent 'slipping' for now. You could almost say that I have no control now for all the power I have(or going to have). I know for sure traction will be the biggest problem for now.
I know that SHOP has pretty okay connection with Quaife, but I doubt I'd ever want to deal with them again. Connection is nothing but calling people around and try to have them custom something for you. I think maybe I'll try to get a hold of those guys and see if they would be interested in building a LSD unit for me...or maybe if they have some sort of race tranny?
At this point, I am still doing okay with traction, but I'm certain I won't like it too much once I dial up the boost. I was able to burn tires all the way till the end of 2nd gear before I even got all these upgrades.
These guys are effectively Quaife of America. They are the official US importer for Quaife and also do their own developement. We know them through VWvortex as they started out as a VW tuner and still are. They advertise on VWvortex and I am certain I can find someone over there you could talk to.
So what's up with the car? You say it isn't running right? Any ideas on what it might be?
Cool, thanks, George. I'll give them a buzz in a few days.
Dunno, the check engine is up all the sudden. Not sure what's up with it. It was fine on Sunday when I went out to lunch with Matt. Then we came back...and he was helping me w/ the A/C stuff. After that I haven't driven the car until Monday afternoon and found out the problem.
Gonna take it to dealer first to find out what the check engine light is for...then off to EIP and have them look at it.
Very very weird...the car was running pretty well on Saturday when I took Rob out for a spin.
BTW, called up the Scandinavian Import Svc Ctr, but didn't talk to the service department yestday. The sales guy was very unwilling to even do anything for my car after I told him what I have done to the car......
Thanks...I did just give them a call. Todd seems to be very knowledgeable and not scared of mods. Although they haven't done anything quite like my car, they still welcome me with open arms.
Yeah, and Baltimore isn't all that close. They are right off of I-83 though.
