Central Ohio Buckeye Volvo Club
On Saturday, February 5th, 2005, the second meeting of the newly formed Buckeye chapter met in Columbus, Ohio. The January meeting was canceledbecause of severe weather warnings. Members attending both first and secondmeetings were recognized as Charter Members and Club logo pins were presented. This event was followed by a discussion of the kind of structure we would like to have for the Club, and several program ideas for futuremeetings were also suggested.

A major part of our program was devoted to a very interesting
presentation by Joshua Miller, Internet Manager, Byers Volvo, describing his
visit and hands-on driving experience with the new XC 90 V8 at Volvošs test track area in Phoenix, Arizona. He reported that on both open road and on offroad the V8šs performance was impressive, and Josh added that its performance in sand pits and on steep climbs was outstanding. An early press release states that the V8 is available only in the U.S., and later
will expand to Canada, Mexico and Germany. it was also observed that the V8 engine marks a new turning point in Volvošs history. Another first for Volvo was the Super Bowlšs commercial advertising the XC 90 V8. The Super Bowl is one of the most-watched television events of the year, with an average U.S. viewership in excess of 80 million - and one reviewer observed that Volvo has now decided to play with the big boys.
Following Joshšs presentation, the group discussed new Volvo products
likely to appear within the next couple of years. Evidence was presented
that 2004 was an excellent year for the Volvo Car Corporation. The magic
ceiling of 450,000 cars has finally been passed.
Appreciation was expressed to Byers Volvo for their contributions to
our logo pins and for the luncheon provided following the program. A
further announcement mentioned plans for the Club to have its own Website shortly. The next meeting will be on Saturday, March 12, at 10:00 a.m. Volvo enthusiasts in Central Ohio, as well as others in nearly areas, are encouraged to attend.
For additional information contact Horst Gienapp at 614-882-5235 or
[email protected] com
Us over here in Indiana would be interested in getting together with those in the Buckeye chapter and possibly organize a midwest meet. We look forward to meeting our neighbors to the east at a mutually acceptable location to show off our volvos!
