Are you thinking about the Dastek Unichip thingy? Well, I got one on my car.
I have that and a custom tuned factory ECU.
As far as I know the Dastek's Unichip with AFC and all other goodies hooked up...you would pay at least close to $700~$800 depends on how involved the tuning process was. The kit..more so than just a chip, is about ~$500..then installation and few hours on the dyno to get tuned....so my figure is pretty realistic. Not sure how much they will ask for in UK Pound or if anyone there can set this up for you, but this is what I know from my experience.
As for the toyota factory defect look, not sure if any company out there has looked into this yet. I don't even think they have one for any of the Volvos. Maybe they think Volvo owners don't have the same taste the Civic boys do?
Just teasing ya....but do you seriously like that look? I know TRD actually has an tail light cover to cover up the clear part of the light. That tells you quite a lot...
Dastek Unichip, that's the one. There is an importer and fitter in the UK, only one, but we can't be picky now can we???
Reason I ask is that a few people really swear by these, rating them far above the others like Superchips as they are supposedly the only "fully" adjustable chip.
As for the lights, I'm not after a cheap bolt on extra (sorry, not an intentional attack on Civic owners
). Its just that my car came with clear lenses and repeaters as standard. Just thought I could colour code these as well as the 3rd break light.

Yup, they are pretty good I'll say. You just have to find someone who knows how to tune them right for you. It is able to cover many aspects and get the car tuned for the optimal performance. If you can find a reliable shop there to help you do the installation and tuning, give it a try.
Hehehe...I think our C70s are nice enough, no need for any bolt-on flashy toys. Only thing flash I got is the front grill and Swedespeed decal.

I hear the Unichip has the ability to run another injector too, like water injection. Is this beneficial? Do they operate full time or is it kind of like a NOS system?
Unichip covers lots add on performance parts and many parameters...almost as good as those much more advance engine management system, but still not quite. They do work as a full time system.
Yep the C70's are styling the only thing that I would rather have on the car is the front lights like a lexus or a bmw. That to me is a sweet look to the car the new s40 has them and the s60 also. Wish they had the option for our c70's
Ohh..you guys are talking about completely clear headlamps, not the tail lights, right? My bad, I thought you were talking about those 'Altezza' tail light. Yup, you gotta call it Altezza..can't call it IS300 b/c it's just not 'cool' enough of a name. Gotta call them by their Japanese model name.
I was thinking of puchasing them from the dealer for the s60 and have them replace them by modification for my c70 but found out that the c70 uses a whole different setup from the s60 and s40's..
Luckily they only introduce the IS300s here. American buyers love bigger engine...6 cylinder 3.0L fits their taste better. Not sure if the car will sell that well with only 4 bangers.
Well, its not 100% sorted yet & I've had 3 sets fall through so far, but I've gone for the MS Design split rims (DP1's or something???)...so sweet and not seen/heard of a C70 with them yet.
I was originally talking about the tail lights, but following the earlier slating you gave me, I might just change my mind.
Don't know enough about water injection, so must walk before we can run. Only concern would be constantly filling the bottle. Yawn!
For some reason, I think that the xenon lamps are now available on UK models as an extra. Will talk to the dealer tomorrow. Perhaps I could start exporting if they do!

It's another local tuning company...Turbo XS. I think the 269 WHP WRX they have tested is probably Rob's(volvorules) friend's. They are the 2nd shop around my area that can do Dastek Unichip.
But Phill, do give Altered guy, Mike, a call. I told him about you already...he'll be able to help you. So let me know how it goes.
Yup, just talked to Turbo XS. Rob's friend with 269 whp WRX was pretty much the first few to try out their Stage 4 kit. I believe Rob was the one who did most of the installation on his friend's car.
Phill, just for your info...these guys also send their cars to Altered to have all the hardware installed. However, they do their own tuning for these WRXs.
So, you should be in good hands if you want to get your car tuned at Altered. If George is reading this thread, let me know if you ever want to do an article for the tuning session. I'll see what kinda arrangement we can do with these guys. I'm taking the C70 in for the FPR and some more tuning, but since it would be during normal business hours, not sure if I can break free. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if Swedespeed can give them some publicities.
I know this Unichip topic is also brought up on other Volvo site, if you can do some report on this...should be a rather interesting topic by itself. I know the whole ECU comparison thingy didn't work out last time...wonder why the other tuners are so reluctant in doing a 3rd party dyno test.

Dutch Volvo 850 Club is doing a dyno day on the 9th of June with several chipped 850's.
I don't know if the result are being published but they run several brands of chiptuning.
The chairman of the club rolled 308 at the engine with a 13% loss, using an 18T turbo and without the cat.
I will ask the AAM guys later this week to see if they can contact you when the FPR is installed and the car is on the dyno or when everything is ready for you.
Should be sometime on Wednesday, so you might want to try to keep your agenda less hectic that day. The guy over there should be able to explain to you a little bit more about the Unichip. I'm also going to find out if Unichip would be interested in covering the dyno session since this is going to be some good publicity for them.
Maybe when Phill is ready with his C70, you can do another shoot another article about how Unichip can do for a stock/slightly tuned T5. Before then, I think we can always get iPd to lend us an ECU or something...or whichever ECU tuner(s) that is bold enough to let others test their ECUs for a change.
So, same idea as last time...but if none of them are willing to endorse a comparison test like this, we should always be able to barrow something from people on SS.
But let's do one thing at time first.
If I can have them arrange something more convenient for me next week, maybe I can join, too.
Cool! Sounds like a plan. Kai, let me know what's up...
