Hello all,
I can't believe I've only just found this site! Apologies in advance for the length of this post, but I've quite a few questions.
I've currently got a '98 C70 T5 GT coupe (UK Spec). For the money, I don't think there's much to touch it in terms of performance and comfort but I have had a couple of problems with the car in the two years I've had it.
The first relates to the windscreen (windshield?). I'm on my 5th! After the orginal was cracked, the replacements have either leaked, creaked, cracked or squeeked. The replacements have all been OEM parts but there seems to be some problem in fitting them. I'm beginning to wonder if the aperture is slightly out of spec. Has anyone else had similar problems?
The second relates to the car's power delivery. According to all the information I've got, peak torque should be available from as low as 2500 rpm (implying that the turbo is fully wound up at this point). On my car it's more like 4000rpm. There's nothing wrong as such (and I've been assured by two different Volvo dealers that the car is fine) but I can't help but feel a little hard done by because it makes the car feel quite sluggish at low engine speeds. I know you can tweak the actuator rod to alter the rate at which the boost builds up but I'd rather keep the car standard. Could it have been mis-set at the factory? Is there much variation between cars?
Despite the problems, I've got a new (identical) C70 on order. I've heard that the coupe won't be in production for much longer and I thought I'd get one to spec while I still could. Everything seems to have improved with the exception of the brakes. My current car has 302mm discs (rotors?) on the front while the new models all seem to come with 280mm ones. Why the reduction? Have the materials changed or is this just a case of one-size-fits-all?
And finally...
This might vary from country to country, but in the UK you can choose how you'd like the chassis set up. There are 5 options (although not every option is available on every model):
- Comfort
- Dynamic
- Low Dynamic
- Sport
- Low Sport
T5s (HPTs?) come with 'Sport' as standard but you can have 'Low Sport' as a no-cost option. Does anybody know if Low Sport gives a harsher ride than Sport or is it just lower as the name suggests.
Thanks in advance
Scott
