Anyone hear about combining a motronic 4.4+ ECU ugrade with a Boost Controller with cabin control?
Basically the ECU upgrade is safe and ups the boost to 13psi from stock 10psi in the C70 HPT. This does not strain the engine a great deal.
I was wondering if anyone knows whether adding a boost controller to the mix, to kick boost up to 15-16psi for racing, would be particularly terrible. Any thoughts?
Welcome to Swedespeed...Another C70 owner-Kai, how many is that? I lost count
About your boost controller: You should be ok to run 15-16 psi, however, BC's aren't the best way to go. It's a cheap way to add power, and your car will go faster, but, you can run into problems with not getting enough fuel, running lean, etc. I have a two-stage controller, but i will probably get rid of it soon and get chipped. You might want to look into a different chip company that will get you up around 15-16 psi, just from that, and then you won't need a BC.
Since your car is the T5, you have 350 cc injectors, so there's enough fuel there, but for safety's sake (good call C70pusher) you'll want to look into a Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator. I know SPG9 has one, as does Bo Engstrom (BSR importer). I think that running 16 psi is totally feasable, but just remember that you do need enough fuel, so spend the 125 bucks for an hour on a dyno with a wideband O2 sensor tweaking with your boost/fuel etc...
Also, running that much boost it is NECESSARY that you go throuth your engine and zip-tie on your vaccuum lines, if they pop off you're in DEEP, plus, zip ties are what? like a buck fitty for 100 of em, so you're fine there.
Thank you gentlemen. I think i was a bit unclear though in my original question, although i don't know if that changes anything.
I wouldn't be running the turbo at such high pressure for extended periods of time.. just for the quick races, and then use the cabin controller to bump it back down.
Does this change anything? Thanks for your input guys, I really appreciate it.
One more thing, I guess this is to fhdt5r... Neither of those sites have any fuel delivery mods for the c70, only the 850. Are they interchangeable?
And this might sound retarded, but i'm just getting started here and its pretty tough i'd say in the land of civics... where is the best place to go for installations of these toys? Can;t afford the dealer.. Where do i even start looking?
And I gotta say again, that I am so happy I found you fellas... finally people that know their **** . Thanks again.

Sorry, couldn't help it. It just sounded funny, that's all. Sorry for not being much of a help.....I'm just so out of it nowadays. Too lazy to get all excited like our young David here...I think i'm just getting old.
...Praz, I have a setup similiar to what you are talking about. I only switch it on high boost when some of the ricers pull up. But if you raise the boost, you probably will need to raise the fuel pressure. It's hard to tell, because every car is different and every driver is different. You could try the fuel pressure regulator-try Jegs for instance. They don't have any for Volvo- and this is a problem you will run into a lot-but most are universal, rail-mount, you just need to find fittings that will fit...And it's cool, i'm fairly new at this game too, so I have a lot to learn. It's kinda addictive though. Once you do one mod, then you gotta do something else. Most mods will affect something else, which affects something else...As far as installation, unfortunately, there is no C70 Speedparts Installations INC., so, you'll have to do some research on your own. If you have a mechanic you trust, ask him about local performance shops. Don't even bother going to the dealer, they wont do the custom mods you are talking about...I dont know if that helps, but it's a start.
HAHAHA, I must apologise, my Dr. Kai perscribed ritalin hasn't arrived yet
You'll have to call Dave at spg9, and e-mail Bo at engstrom.net
I know for sure the engstrom one works, and the spg9 one should as well.
Routing the MBC to the interior of the car is a great idea, just be sure that you test everything out on a dyno, spending the small amount on testing is way cheaper than running lean, pinging, and bending rods.
LOL~! You think too much. Obviously our Young David her is very vibrant and enthusiastic...no need to get on his bad side. After all, he's now the online aftermarket library that we have been looking for. Nothing wrong with a some strong Volvo enthusiasm, right?
Plus, he's always be so polite and courteous, how can we ever have tension just b/c I teased him a bit.
ROFLMAO~
I love you guys, this stuff is SO much fun.
And yes, kai grrrrrrr... we don't get along at ALL
.
Kai, i'm thinking about trying to make up some sort of "nationwide volvo geek meet for tuners" you think of any place that would be good (where you, george, george, charles and all the east coasters could drive out to?
I think that this would be a great thing.
I'm going to the WVCOA Solvang meet the first weekend in september, so we'll see how that goes, but i can't even imagine what a meet of ONLY tuners would be like
I can hear harps already, and see clouds ahhhhhhhhh.

Yeah, the 2000R had 420cc injectors, but it doesn't matter anyway, you were right about injectors kai. For us motronic 4.3 people (up to 1998) using the 4.4 injectors won't work for current purposes of the ECU, and the ME7 is totally different BUMMER, so the best bet for 850 owners is the 1998 T5/R injectors (including the C70 T5). So after i get my turbo upgrade, i'll be going with those.
Errr...hmmm..not exactly what I was trying to say, but anywayz...too lazy and too much details to explain. Too bad only Phill knows what I was trying to say. Maybe I'll let him do the honor. It's Friday evening...I'm off~!
