Damn! Had one of the scariest experiences in my life. One of my tires blew out while I was going 80MPH. I instantaneously swerved across 2-3 lanes and had to majorly correct. Luckily the freeway was pretty empty. Man, my heart is still beating like 100 mph. I'm scared $hitless to drive right now. Word of advice: PLEASE CHECK YOUR TIRES REGULARLY!
Same thing happened to me about 2 months ago. I was only going about 60 when it happened to me. A heard a loud pop and then saw a huge chunk of tire fly past the side window. Then I had to drive it home, from NJ, on a doughnut. Talk about a long ride...
You had a tire blowout at 140MPH? Damn! Well, I check my tire this morning, I had a 2 inch gash/hole in my sidewall. I can literally poke a finger through the tire. Whatever I hit, it won.

I feel for you. It happened to me but only at 40. I was in Irvine and it was raining a little. I swerved and I hit one of those large dots on the street. Can you say bye bye Pirelli??? It blew out the side wall. The rim was fine. The spare changed fairly painlessly. I dig those gloves they put in the trunk on the spare to keep your hands clean. Lesson. Dont run over those large dots on the road.

Well, I just ordered 235/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+. Man, Tirerack was pretty reserved about me ordering it. Someone called to ask me to make sure it wasn't a type (225), to cover their butts I guess. hopefully in a day or two, they'll be here and we'll see if they rub or not. I don't think they should. I'll keep all of you informed.
No, no, have never had a blowout (touch wood!), but it's a scary thought especially as we all drive performance vehicles.
As I mentioned earlier, I had mine floored last Saturday night and at that speed it would probably be time to say goodbye.
