Let my bro drive my car yesterday adn he drained the whole tank. When I got it back, I was cold so I hit the heater and a fine mist of coolant blasted me in the face. Then I noticed the low coolant light on, and felt something damp under my bare feet. The carpet and mats on both the drive side and passenger side were soaked in coolant. Took it into Carlsbd Volvo and it seems they have th replace the heater core. Luckily I still have a month of warranty left till I have to think about extending it. Anybody else here had this heater core problem? Sux to be away from the C70 for two days.
I don't have a C70 and my heater core did not go out on my Volvo but it did go out on my 86 Cougar, which has a similar system in it under the dash, so replacing it requires the removal of the entire dash panel (like the Volvo) I remember driving my Cougar down the freeway at about 65mph and then all of a sudden I hear this big PSSSSSHHHHHHHH and smoke starts filling the cabin and i'm like WTF?!?! So I roll the windows down and make my way off the freeway, I was scared cause at the time I wasn't very knowledgable about cars and I thought my car was on fire. Needless to say like you my floorboard was wet, the vents were letting out all kinds of steam and yes my heatercore had busted. I think it was like 400$ to replace.
not bad overall for an 86 in 1997. My parents 83 Cougar heatercore went out in 94. I hope my S40 takes it like a Cougar and last at least 10 years.
yeah, it's just frustrating cuz I just finished leaving it overnight with the dealer for the 45k maint, seems like I hardly get to drive it, thank god it's under warranty. I didn't think things like this were supposed to happen to a 98
My Heater core just went on my out of Warranty C, They took it out and showed me, it was a fault right on the plastic weld/join. Looked like a defect to me.
My dealer put in a goodwill request and volvo said they'd pay for 75% of it. Still not happy though cause my c has been a lemon.
Been in the shop about 30 times in 3 years.
Unfortunately I am emotionally attached to it or I wouldve sold it years ago.
Don't think about extending it. Just extend it if you can part with the cash. A car like a C70 is going to demand a fair amount of maint through ought its life.
