Has anyone added a remote starter to their factory alarm? is this even possible? I would really like to add it my car if its possible. But im not sure, do the C70's have a chip in the key? Just wondering if anyone had info on this topic, thanks for any help.
i have done it to old cars but not a new ones... i spose you would just do the same...find the wires from the ignition and tap into them, like hot wireing it. i dont fit them to manuels for obviouse resons..
I am interested in this as well, I was looking for one with a turbo timer also. I think we would just replace the alarm system with a better one with the options we wanted. Seems silly to have two remotes on your key chain for one car.
I think Volvo recommends not to get a remote starter, the car is supposed to warm up quickly with the thermostat closed and the obvious environmental harm of letting your car sit and run... probably no mechanical or electrical issues though...
one of these days someone will find the plans for the delorean in "Doc's" workshop and figure out how to make your car at least a little bit remote controled, haha. Kinda like the benz in MIB II, that would be sic. Till then, will settle for remote start. As long as you hop in and roll out before you look like a ricer who just likes others to hear his car run forever and talk about how many other hondas he's raced, you should be aight.
Bond had a remote BMW too, he drove it from the back seat while the bad guys were shooting at him in a parking garage http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
I don't think the starters are quite that trick though, lol!

ooooooooooooooooohhhhh yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeehhhhhhhh http://********************/smile/emthup.gif what i would give to owna delorean!!!! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif the delorean has a v6 PRV motor in it, which is found in nun other than the 264 volvo!!!!!, only wish a 264 volvo sounded as good..the BTTF car kicks ass!
I looked into this on my 2000V70. It can be done but it'll cost you a bit. Because of the security system you need to build a by-pass to add the starter (generally need the higher end starter). To do this you will need to buy another key (and have it programmed) to be used in the by-pass.
I was quoted $700 Canadian plus a key and programming.
The shop that gave me the quote is reputable and actually advised against it because of the security concerns.
It can be done but is extremely tricky to do and therefore expensive!
Many alarm companies make the automatic starter module and Clifford make one that works on a manual gearbox...
The main problem arises out of Volvos standard alarm and immobiliser system, the alarm can be disabled fairly easily, but the immobiliser part is not so east and if not done properly leads to problems.
Another aspect to consider are the deadlocks, will the new system be able to operate these???
The only reason I know is that I wanted total closure added to mine including the roof and thought what the hay, lets just fit the lot, after all its kind of cool when sitting in the pub garden, drop the roof and start the car without moving!!!
Anywho, problems were met and it was established that I could have the Clifford system but would need to turn off the Volvo jobbie as well.
I used to have one of the Clifford's top of line system. It worked great, but it had its glitches (probably was also not installed 100% correctly). Clifford does offer great variaties of different features, but the software bug it has is well known in the industry as well.
Just about two months ago, I switch to an European Viper system. Works great, much less features, but cheaper and so far no glitches and haven't drained my battery yet.
It really depends on what you want with your security system. Most likely I will be recycling my Clifford and use it on my truck since I got those one touch window roll up(remote windown control, key turning window down feature). Should be very interesting....
