View Full Version : Recommendations for remote oil filter

I am presently shopping around for a few things and am wondering if anyone out there can recommend a good remote oil filter setup for the B20. I've seen a few generic ones on the market (Mr. Gasket, etc.) -- are these adequate? Did Volvo make something for Comp Service?
It is my goal to move the filter away from the header in time for my next oil change.
Thanks

i used to have a '70 145. i had it for 25 years and 400k miles. i had a generic remote filter. it is based on a fram/motorcraft size off many cars.
volvo used a rather standard parts system then. you will find any of the main manufacurers adaptors will just spin right on. the hose fittings and lines are all made to work with their adaptors and the remote locator of the filter system then uses what ever size they want for a filter. i used a double (read two oil filters) system that were on a single remote fixture.
check out summit or jegs for a system. the one i got was simple and got the filter away from the heat and added an additional quart of oil. it was nice.
if i remember the volvo filter was the same as a fram ph 8, and any other size like that. just take a filter you trust is the right size and check it yourself or ask the sales guys to make sure it will be what you want. then use whatever filters are proper for the one you buy.
it did help my car. it is still running around berkeley cal as of last week! i gave it to a guy at rpr. a good source for parts for the old cars.
good luck.
it will make a difference i know.
edited for spelling

At one time Volvo/Penta marine aftermarket parts included a HD remote system for the B20. I'll go google...
George Dill

I bought my remote adapter and filter bas from J.C. Whitney a million years ago. The remote used a PH8 filter also but I wouldn't put a Fram filter on my lawn mower.
