I want to swap my small block Chevy into a Volvo. I know about Converse and JTR. My engine will have 400 to 500 hp (nitrous is a possibility). The tranny is an Muncie M21 close ratio with an overdrive kit (third gear is 1:1 and forth is .87:1). My question is, assuming that I get traction from proper tires, would an IRS(diff and axles) in a 760 be able to widstand the power or should I get a 740 (solid axle). Someone from another forum proposed that if I wanted the benefits of an IRS (ride and handling) I should install a diff from a Nissan 300ZX or an old Supra Turbo. This seems like alot of work, adapting it to the Volvo chassis and the axles and all. Any comments?
Also, I am conserned about keeping weight to a minimum. Do the following curb weights seem accurate?
740: ~3000 lbs.
760: ~3200 lbs.
940: ~3200 lbs.
960: ~3400 lbs.
Thanks,
Marty
