      Installed the K&N CAI

      Took an hour or so......

Nice noise and excellent throttle responce

Try removing the insulation blanket under your hood. It should make things even louder. I did this with my R, and my goodness you can hear the turbo spool and the CBV is as loud as a BOV. There is no reason why this should be any different with the T5.
      Read about it here.....

Ooo samkell, keep us updated, I'm hesitant to install a K&N due to mixed reactions with MAF issues/increased dirt allowed through.

2 years with the K&N on my S40 and ZERO issues. Just do it.

i have had them in lots of cars with no issues. Brand new 2002 ford focus has had a K&N drop in for 180,000 kms - No MAF issues. Cleaned and oiled every 16,000 kms

      Its worth it.....

Oil changes will be a lot easier now

Any perceivable performance difference between the iridiums and the Volvo OEMs?

Nope. Just maintenance interval time for plugs and figured I'd go with 'em. Got them for 7-something a piece at partsgeek.com plus $7 shipping.

I may have just been too frustrated by my first (failing) try at the cabin air filter. It's not so hard once you throw those hellacious lock-nuts away.

Confirmed! About 8 clips and you're done. A flathead helps but is not necessary. They squeeze together and come out.

I've had my K&N intake for a year with no problems; the filter isn't even very dirty.

So I took off the under hood insulation and DAUM!!!! what a difference that makes! Such an easy mod but my intake sounds twice as loud with the windows up and three times as loud with them down! I LOVE IT! Why did I never think of this before!

Made my long terrible day of studying a little better! Thanks for the idea guys!

Is this only for quieting the engine bay down? Or are there other purposes? I took mine out a week or so ago when I was doing something, didn't even think of leaving it off...I just might have to do this too.

      Re: (carreragt7)

Its supposed to provide some thermal protection for the hood, but here in AZ, where it hits 130 in the parking lot, and I have never heard of anyone having issues, I don't think engine heat is a huge concern. If youre freaked out, get a mirror kit or put some plexiglas or heat shield stuff(like foil backed matting) in the sections under the hood...probably almost as effective as a heat barrier.

      Im doing it anyways.

I think there is a thread about the hood liner in the S60R forums and most people there don't report any problems and quite a few have done it.

Our hoods are aluminum (I believe) which makes it much less susceptible to the effects of heat (I believe).

Sanatarium, like usual is correct ( Sana). But in addition the blanket also acts as a fire retardant and can suppress an engine fire. I figured if you engine catches fire some how, your car is toast either way. More info in the link that S40DaB and I posted to the original thread from the R forum.

No worries Matt. I just scrolled up and it turns out that what you said went right over my head anyway *WOOSH*. It's been that kind of week. Good news is I am going to look at getting a custom (hopefully hidden) hitch put on my car sometimes later this week and then I'm getting my new summer playtoy. Yamaha Waverunner FZR. 1812 cc, 220 hp, supercharged, 4 cylinder 4 stroke 1.8 L intercooled. Oh and I just got a raise at work. CHA-CHING

Just the adhesive that comes on the back of the T5 Badge (~$30 part)...Whenever my evolve intercooler comes and i have to take off the bumper i was thinking about putting a couple dabs of glue on the back of the grille to prevent someone from pulling it off

I took the OEM heat/ noise thing off the underside of my hood. I replaced it with Heat barrier in the areas that are directly exposed to the hood.

I also installed a heat shield for my K&N intake tube. It will block almost all of the radiant heat from the engine.
