@I like Volvos and SB, i like the clean look of the boost gauge in the vent install. Any potential issues during winter with the heat blasting and affecting the accuracy ?
No issue over the time I had mine in my vent with heat or AC. Now I have it in a pillar pod that I bought from a local Volvo guy.
My install wasn't as clean... I just dremel'd the vents and super glued them in place. Looked like crap lol.

Nice! My dad recently extended the shelving in our garage similar to that. It works well... but I just never have enough space for all the parts I accumulate!

      I finally got it back

      No more leaks

Runs 100% now. Timing, pcv, coolant system, radiator hoses, heater core, evap leak by the gas tank, lowering springs, new strut hardware, new front struts. light bar... I think that was it

Water pump bolt threads were completely white from corrosion. Aluminum heater core pipes broke. That was the coolant leak. Did about every damn seal on the engine besides the rear main so not sure what that was.

These wood-related projects are my favourites. It's always hard to organise tyres in garage. They take too much space.
Don't your shelves interfere with door guides? How do you move tyres in the most upper level?

Had a bit of an issue a few miles down the road

They didn’t notice the previous owner had jerry rigged these into the plug with rubber. Baked out and started overheating. Went back and fixed in about 10 mins.

No interference with door guides. I use my step ladder and load the top shelf tires to the right of the beam and slide them over. If that beam wasn't there i could have added a 4th shelf. Which i probably should have done and built it where the chemical shelving is. My oldest sons ford focus will need a winter set up next season. Unless he moves out first then i'm good. He's 20 yrs old and getting close to flying the coup.

Alright now you guys are starting to scare me. JK though, i wont push him to hard (yet). Hes gonna have to take care of me when i no longer cant. He's 1.5 years into his glass blowing apprenticeship. And i gotta say, he's damn good at it. He's getting his name slowly out there and is already selling some of his work for decent prices. If your name gets big enough in the industry, you can sell pieces for crazy money.

I think a huge portion of our generation isn't going to move out until they are orphaned (does that even count as moving out at that point?). It just doesn't make sense with the cost of housing in so much of the world now. I would have no disposable income and no retirement savings if I didn't live at home. On a practical level I think it makes a ton of sense for families who get along well enough; we certainly are able to accomplish far more as a team than we would independently. Nothing wrong with multi-generational living as long as you can leverage it to everyone's advantage.

I'm 21, also in that boat!

But I agree, on a practicality level if it works out for everybody, why not? The biggest advantage to me moving out would be more space to store my cars, but that would probably be the only advantage at this point. Then again, my parents don't mind the mess of my 5 cars and the fact that over the past few years I've taken over the garage almost completely, so I have nothing to complain about.

So while we're on this topic, what's with all us younger guys driving Volvo wagons? lol

I understand its different for different generations. A lot of 15 yr old's today have no desire to get there permits ??? I moved out and rented my first place when i was 20. Not to escape a bad family situation, but mostly to get some nookie in a more private environment. As they say men think with their "you know whats". When the 16 yr old finishes high school we might move its the only thing tying us to our neighborhood. We would be selling an over priced house at a nice profit to move into a smaller overpriced house. But if it has some privacy and a shop out back, i might be game.

I don’t know. Whenever I see a “Wagon Mafia” sticker on a Passat, I shake my head. Maybe I’m just old.

So while we're on this topic, what's with all us younger guys driving Volvo wagons? lol
Did our parents all have Volvo estates? For me my lifestyle requires me to have a useful car that's fun to drive, and my environmental philosophy requires that it get decent fuel economy. We had already found the answer so it wasn't even a question.

Yeah that sounds about right. I also don't understand why people think it's not cool for young guys to drive Volvo estates in the first place. Breaking news, guys: girls love it (and not just yellow ones). I think I've told this story before but one time I rolled up to a party in a pretty upscale neighborhood in my T-5R with 3 of my female friends and there was a Porsche 911 parked a few cars in front of me. Of course I'm checking it out as we walk by and one of my friends says to me "But, Jared, you couldn't fit your girls in there!" LOL. So there ya go. Score: Volvo 3, Porsche 0.

Oh yeah.....my friend who hosted that party now owns my old white 850R estate.....and now his girlfriend is shopping V70s to replace her Escape. The Volvo experience is apparently extremely attractive to the type of people I attract as friends.

When the 16 yr old finishes high school we might move its the only thing tying us to our neighborhood. We would be selling an over priced house at a nice profit to move into a smaller overpriced house. But if it has some privacy and a shop out back, i might be game.
I was having that conversation a few weeks ago with one of my friends who just dropped out of his freshman year of college. He had ended up at a school a few hours away after getting caught up in the whole "college experience" hype and realized dropping $180k on that was a really dumb idea. That was the biggest reason he had for not living at home and commuting somewhere. The college industry has figured out that they can sell, uh, privacy to college kids for $15k+/yr. He also wants a Volvo, so I told him to go somewhere he can commute to and take the savings and buy a Volvo estate and a tent and go on some camping trips or something. For better or worse, we live in a capitalist system, and I will play that game to win and encourage everyone I know to do so as long as that's the game we're playing. When businesses start overvaluing the product they offer me, you take my money and go find a more cost effective solution. To me, sacrificing 20 years of financial stability for 4 years of fun is an absolutely insane trade off, but corporate america is damn good at selling that "college experience" to keep you trapped in the system for the next 40 years.

Also this thing about kids not getting their permits seems to only be a city kid thing from what I see. And yeah it's pretty pointless in the city if you don't ever have a reason to leave the city on your own, and hard to justify unless you actually have a lot of places to go given what insurance rates are these days for kids in the city. A lot of city kids also have some prejudice against suburban/rural areas being boring or not woke or whatever. Separate rabbit hole I'm not trying to take us down but that's just what they see. In my neighborhood, all the kids are getting their permit as soon as they can.

Obviously you should go get a place with a shop 👍

That's not cause your old. Passat's wagons were too bulbus looking and dogs unless you had a V6. I still think an older Honda Accord wagon in mint condition still get's street cred

Laser’s battery is dead after being parked for 2 months. Tried trickle charging but it wouldn’t hold. Pissed me off. I think I will just pilfer Sonic’s batt cause that car’s annoying me even more.

Or you could be a bass player like me and need to schlep your gear (and the guitarist's). But back in the day (25 years ago...) driving a 245 didn't really seem to hurt my chances with the ladies. I think it projected an air of maturity and responsibility, not to mention the abilty to fit a twin size mattress in the back. Just a shame that all the drive-in theaters have gone away...

Well in this day and age, drive in movies are becoming a thing again!

I need to get rolling on my 245. It's just been sitting on my driveway since I pulled it home new year's eve. Oh yeah, then I pulled the engine and trans a couple months ago to throw the AW70 in my '93 940 before I sold it so it would have a functioning transmission.

Most auto store rebuilt calipers are OEM, but they’re hit or miss. My cousin had a reman OE caliper from AutoZone on his V70, and it failed on him on the highway.
O’Reilly may be better though, who knows.

Where are you finding Hawk pads for a P80? I was looking for them for mine, and I ended up going with R1 Concepts rotors and pads. I’m hoping I won’t be disappointed!

Silly me, i just got done searching and can only find rear pads. Back to square one of reading through all the threads to find the best pads, rotors and calipers. Unless anyone wants to chime in on a suggestion and best source.
