Re: (VolvoBob)

VolvoBob, I have gotten numerous opinions on the subject of tranny juice for my 1800ES. Stock 4 sp O/D.

non-detergent 30w?
80-90 gear lube? (heard that's what Irv runs)
MTL?
ATF DEXIII?

I'm in Texas, so it's hot. Also have a weak 3rd-to-4th synchro, so I double-clutch on that one.

Your opinion?

You won't go far wrong in using what the manual calls for.
I have not had an ES or manual for one but 20 or 30wt standard motor oil works well. NO super antifriction additives! They keep the cone clutch from holding. BTW Irv probably has a different tranny than yours.

Thanks, George, for the manual sections. Appreciate it!

Washed and waxed, all fluids checked OK, A/C working fine, almost all is well.

Previous owner put on 17x7 inch wheels, with wide 245/45 tires. Rough ride, and hard to steer. They rub just a bit when the wheels are cranked all the way.

Next decision ... go back to 15" stock wheels or get a set of 15" Superlites.

Opinions, anyone?
