Long Interview with Doug Speck from Volvo Cars US

      Hi everyone,

FYI - Doug Speck appeared on the online TV show/podcast "Autoline Detroit" on September 9. You can find it on iTunes or http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/

      I haven't listened/watched yet, but I thought I'd pass the info along.

      Andy

There are two segments, very interesting. Highlights I thought were the model emphasis in the future- C30, XC60 and S, with the new S60 expected to be the main volume car; no expansion of dealerships in the USA, in fact might cut some; gas, diesel and hybrid electric hybrid technology will be available in all markets but market preferences and gov't policies will decide which one
becomes more established. Volvo CEO said that from a cost to produce, cost to buy and efficiency rating, diesel was a good solution but gov't intervention could change that.

      Re: (NevadaVolvo)

In addition NevadaVolvo I found the marketing segment of Volvo most interesting as the focus will be somewhat away from static commercials - TV for example - but will focus on the digital social media activation.

Doug Speck's talk on GOOD DESIGN getting peoples juices going will get Volvo past the .06 and 1.0 % in sales volume. Doug said "good design makes all the other stuff easier".

      Great thread AndyDO.

Also, A couple of interesting points that should settle the previous discussions - right from the "horse's mouth"

      1. C line cannot sustain the brand, while higher segment of S and XC might.
      2. Volvo is unequivocally luxury brand.
