Windows/mirrors steering switch - is FL compatible with pre- FL ?

Just a thought - would anyone know if the switch for steering the windows&mirrors on S40/V50 FL version would fit the 2005-2008 model aswell?
The size seem identical, but maybe someone can confirm/deny for me before I tear apart my collegue's door to try it on mine? :P

Reason for this question is that I have never seen worse design of window switches than on my 2005 model, and recently I compared it to 2008 model and was plesantly surprised with the updated design...

      any advices welcome

I'm pretty sure it will work. Same one in my '10 C30 and '16 V60.

OK, I may have a go, lucky enough to have FL version to check with. From YT it looks like getting them out is 5 second job (thanks MNIWT :P ) so tomorrow will try the swap and see if it works.
If anyone can confirm if defo WONT work, please feel free to save me hassle, otherwise will report after checking if worked

Interesting, I didn't realize there was a difference...

The switches are just switches, the actual computer (DDM/PDM) is in the window motor.

Most of the pinouts remained unchanged through the facelift, so there is a good chance it will work.

Now I'm curious, if you do it take pics of them side-by-side.

This should be the same for all P1s regardless of model, correct? (E.g., comparing my pre-FL '06 S40 to my '08 C70). I'll take a look when I get home tonight and let you know.

Sorry, forgot the pre-FL C70 switch is different than the S40 (extra "all up" and "all down" window switches which the FL C70 no longer has).

Ill do the photo when trying, no problem. There is no huge difference in look, but noticeable in operating comfort. The ones on pre-FL are extremely short and flat, and operating them is basically 0-1, especially for someone with long arms like me. On FL model, they are a bit angle-alligned, and seem to have much nicer tactile feel (like standard keyboard vs mechanical one for example) so its much easier to operate .
Wouldnt notice it myself until i sat on 2008 FL and tried to open the window.

Well, sometimes its good to have a buddy with different version of your car, as it just saved me unnecessary expense.

see below: Left side - 2005 model (mine), Right side - FL version (2008)

BTW - there is still a TINY chance his switch may have different connector - his doesnt have "child lock", so MAYBE there is alternative version of this. But on the other hand , p/n from his switch is also listed for WITH child lock, so Im 99% positive connector will remain the same for any post FL version.

      better luck next time... :/

Bummer. Do you both have/not have retractable mirrors? I noticed there was a difference in p/ns on fcp Euro between those two (no pics of the part though, unfortunately).

Same version, both manual mirrors :/
The difference with amount of wires is staggering though, they must have changed either the way of communicating of the switch or the loom (to vehicle - specific, f.e. without redundant cables) as the wire cound almost halved...

So I was lazy and didn't check the FL VWD... My bad.

Pre-FL each switch is passed over a separate wire to the door module. See page 115 of the 05 VWD.

Post-FL all the signals are passed over over 1-wire via LIN (like the infamous WMM) Power, ground, and LIN come from the DDM to 3/81, the other couple of wires run up to the lock/unlock switch. It's on page 153 if you're curious.

Makes sense as the cost of the LIN controllers started coming down, at some point they are cheaper than the copper wire, connector pins, etc.

Good to have it documented with pics though!

Edit: Interestingly, looking at the LIN network overview it seems that the driver door switch was the *only* change to the LIN network, and only on S40/V50 except for the left/right cameras (option). So I don't feel too bad...

      cool wiring diagrams btw! no idea how to read or use them but already hamster-stored in my "hope will never need them" car library folder :}
