Difficult turning wheel, power steering feels like its turning on and off

      Hello all, I have been browsing the forum a few weeks now as i just purchased a used 2005 S60R M/T w/ 117k TI/Nordkap.

I have an issue with the steering that i need some help on. Only way i can describe the problem is as i am turning the steering wheel, it feels like the power steering pump is turning on and off every half second or so. The wheel will be stiff and then easy and then stiff as it turns. Im stumped.

      Things I have checked:
      PS fluid is light orange?
Fluid is not leaking from the res.
      No PS pump noise
fluid level is between max hot and max cold 20 mins after driving car

car just got new tires and alignment.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

I just recently had this problem. Spray some lubricant (liquid wrench, etc.) on your steering knuckle, turn your wheel a couple of times to work it in, let it sit for about 30 minutes or so, and you should be good to go! It is a bit difficult to work around the turbo intake pipe in order to get a direct spray on the knuckle, but it can be done without taking anything off. Let me know how you make out!

I'm out on my test drive getting coffee, but i thought I'd report a SIGNIFICANT improvement to this problem.

I took some pictures and have some tips for others I will post when I get home. Thanks again.
