The OE bar seems like it could handle some WD. It mounts to the frame with 4x 10.9 long bolts and 2x 8.8 short bolts.

I need to get a trailer bar for the Volvo I have. Dealer price is like 260 so unless I find one at the local pick n pull I'll end up buying a new one...

Wellz, it's been a few days since I last gave an update and a lot has happened. Currently at home still trying to unpack and get back to civilization, posttraumatic wildness disorder is hard to shake off.

We've been on the move almost every day making our way home and trying to hit as many parks and points as possible.

Blanket Creek Provincial Park - British Columbia
'Welcome to the most beautiful place in the world'
      - Camp Host

Was a really nice park, but we were there only for a short stop over on our way to the next stop.

Camped for two nights, but man, this park deserves more time to fully appreciate. One thing I love/hate about these type of road trips, you get to see a lot of parks, but there's so little time to enjoy them as we have to keep on the move. More fuel for future adventures!

Again, loved this park, it feels so wild. Got down to 4*C one night and snowed in our campsite. No real accumulation, but all the mountains were snow covered in the morning. Was spectacular! Thankfully we got an electric site and the camper has a furnace, made the night and morning bearable.

      Badlands!

      Drumheller/Dinosaur Provincial Park - Alberta

We went to Drumheller and took the kids around some of the typical tourist traps and it was fun. Dinosaurs, fossils, and badlands, they loved it all. The complexity of the badlands landscape offers so much for discovery and exploration.

LOLOLOL! Funny thing. I was working last night and this morning . Big push on some projects. I've got the rest of the weekend off, but it's back to swinging hammer on Tuesday.

I'll update more on the adventures in a bit, but for some misadventures.

Ran out of gas in rural Alberta between Drumheller and Dinosaur Provincial Park. Was depending on Google Maps to lead me to a town where there was a gas station. To my surprise, when we arrived to the intersection there was no gas station in sight. Apparently it was a municipal gas Depot for emergency and service vehicles m.... My tank didn't have enough to make it to the next town. Drove it till it bogged out then rolled it to a pull out. Got out the sun umbrella and made camp roadside while we waited for CAA/AMA... and waited. Pretty much a no show 3hs later. A local farmer noticed us sitting around for so long that he brought us a 20l can of gas, said we could come back to his place and have dinner with his family, and we'd be able to fill off his tank. Well! They treat us all to a steak dinner and filled the tank for free! Kids had an amazing time on the farm, and we were still able to make it to our campsite before sundown.

Also, trailer blew a tire in Shaunavon Saskatchewan. It's always Saskatchewan. Third tire I've blown in that province. $168 for a new set installed and 1h service isn't bad at all.

Said he has over 300 head of cattle. The steak, while a bit over done for my liking had great flavour.

After Dinosaur Provincial Park we 'bridged the gap' so to say. We spent one night in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park then drove the length across the prairies in one shot to Winnipeg. Spent the day in Winnipeg then camped in a Place just outside of Kenora, ON. Took the following 8 days/1800km to trip home across the north shore of Lake Superior. Here's a few of our stops.

      Sandbar Lake Provincial Park

We had a fox visit us for dinner...

      Trip totals
      Time: 25days
      Distance: 5992mi / 9643km
      Fuel Economy: 15.2mpg / 15.47L/100km
      Fuel: 394gallons / 1492L fuel
      Fuel Average Price (91): $3.36/g / $1.19/L
      Fuel Total Cost: $1348US / $1798CAD

The XC performed flawlessly. No issues at all and had plenty of power to pull the load up hills and on the highway, and most importantly had the stopping power to bring it to a stop quickly. A lot of time in boost at cruise and on hill climbs, but she handled the abuse without fail! We faced some nasty head winds across the prairies which caused the fuel economy to tank. On a 1000km stretch it was averaging 12mpg / 19.3L/100km at 95km/h . It was worked hard on a few side trips, up steep grades, and across hard terrain. I'm really pleased with its performance and I'm looking forward to taking it on many more adventures in the future!

      Cheers!
      Anthony

Looks like a great trip! I've always wanted to do the east shore of Lake Huron and the north shore of Superior. Maybe, someday.

Yes, the winds across the plains can suck. Remember getting 6 MPG with a 25ft TT going across OK at 60-65 MPH. The truck would drop to 3rd gear on level ground. $120 in gas to go 180 miles (in 2008).

When we were young my dad used to rent an RV and take us up to the mountains. Catskills or PA. You've seriously got me remembering those days and wanting to recreate those memories now that we've got young kids around again in our family. (Not mine! lol!)

Took the XC bombing down some dirt roads today to get a feel for the 25mm wheel spacers I installed last week. It definitely was rubbing like mad on drop off and large bumps. Got it home and up on ramps to see where it was making contact.

      Well, that's tight!

I removed the wheel well liner and with a little bit of trimming and a few body rivets I was able to get a little more clearance while maintaining the wheel well liner.

It just barely tucks in there. Loaded up some tool in the back and took it for a drive over a few large speed bumps and there's no more rubbing at bottom. Things could be different with a trailer load or the new Toyos I've got waiting, but for now it's clear. Alternatively I could drop down to 20mm spacers, but that means getting 17mm extended bolts which I'm not thrilled about.

I've been through this when I originally fitted the 235/65R17. Fronts had a little rubbing at full lock, but the rears would contact the wheel wells which need to be worked to fit.

      Read this here.

While tight, they fit perfectly after the modification. The rear could be loaded down the to bump stops without rubbing.

I have no pics of the recent modification as I was rushed, but because of the spacers it needs more clearance at the outer edges. I removed the wheel well liner, cut off the tabs for the body trim peices, trimmed the outer lip that tucks under the trim, trimmed and cut the retaining tabs back to make the liner seat flush to the innee lip, and cut the two bump outs for the trim rivets on the liner so that they can tuck in (I'll need to seal these holes). Pop rivets to secure it all back into place.

LOVE the new teeth! They look so good!
You make 31x10.5's work, and I'm buying an 07 XC somewhere and doing this trail of mods...
It would then become my new favorite over my 88 Toyota 4x4.

Ha! That would take some serious modification to the rear, but with the XC90 front end they will clear.

While tight, they fit perfectly after the modification. The rear could be loaded down the to bump stops without rubbing.
Yeah, seen that. I guess, the only way to know if it'll fit is to buy the rubber and have no way back

I also got a Tundra TRD Offroad to deal with the reconstruction of new to us house, but man it is unprepared to leave the asphalt! XC70 is way better protected, plus as capable as Tundra 4x4-wise. Or, better said, Tundra is no better than XC70. Volvo strong! 💪

Just buy one used tire and mount it to a wheel to test fit. If it works then the used tire becomes a full size spare.

It's the other way around: buy all 4 and make them fit! =)

I still need 2" lift. Running now with 20mm, don't think that's enough 29" tall tire.

I ran 29" on completely stock suspension and it worked out fine, but it looks much better with a lift.

It's drives well and true, feels solid, and looks square. No contact with the control arm and subframe and it handles quite well so far. I assume as a bushing soften up I may need to cut some more out of the pinch weld, but for now everything is well.

So checking back on my recent alignment print out I noticed that I they measured the track width difference of the front end at 2.87". So that means that the XC90 lower front end that's been installed spaces it out by almost 3" total! Feels a looks great, but I didn't expect there to be that much of a difference, though dding 2" to the rear axle really did help balance it out.

Thinking about changing it up. Aquarius or don't touch the Neptunes?

Stick with the Neptunes, man. SO much better, IMO.
