Yeah, Neptunes are pretty awesome, it's just that there's a decent set of Aquarius for $250cad that was taunting me.

Ha, but my brakes are too big and the centre bore doesn't match it anymore... if I were to go to 16s I would need to reduce the 316mm rotors and 16 in XC90 like these.

And yes, more sidewall is better, and going to a 16 in wheel with a 29 inch tire has a lot more exciting options.

Was that you headed down Ellis Drive this morning? You don’t have a Thule wind fairing, do you?

Just drove it back from the shop. They look and feel great. Getting a bit more rubbing upfront due to the fresh treads, but should be a simple fix.

      We have contact.

The new tires are a real head-turner... . rrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRR.

In a straight line they clear, but any turning past 3/4 to lock will rub like mad, so I got to work. With a bit of heat gun treatment, some trimming, and strategic placement of rivets was able to get it to clear.

Still a bit of rubbing at full lock, but that was there with the previous set and is easily avoided. Even though these tires are the same 235/65R17 the previous set, they are slightly larger. They look bigger in the wheel wells too. The rears still clear, though I've not tested the full range yet.

Should be getting some snow and freezing conditions over the next few days, interested to see how they handle.

Is removing that arm and replacing it as easy as jacking it up and unbolting it and screwing the new one in?

Yes, but rusted fasteners can be an issue, and I'd recommend an alignment afterwards, but if you place the bolt in the same orientation as it was removed it should be the same.

I believe that member has a camber bolt on the inside end for alignment. Do your best to mark position of offset bolt but you will likely need an alignment after you have replaced.

These tires are fat! Comparing them to both the old set and a goodyear I'm using as full size spare these are very large for the same size. Getting some rubbing with the rear end this low. I could fix it, but got no time for that now. Reducing the wheel spacers from 25mm to 20mm would help, but that would involve a new set of though bolt spacers and longer bolts which I'm not excited about...

Appearance and balance. The XC90 front suspension spaced out the front axle by 72mm, adding 50mm to the rear maintains a less extreme track stagger and wider is better.

      Snow Fun!

The Toyo Open Country ATII feel very passable for winter driving. Was able to get a feel for them in a wintery mix ranging from freezing rain to fresh powder, snow covered back roads and unmaintained access road. They feel very confident and maintain predictable handling on road and are able to push through and climb hills easily off road. Temperatures were keeping between 0C to -4C, will be interesting to see how the rubber harden at colder temp and how they perform on ice. For now I'm very impressed by them.

How’s the tune these days? Did you ever change the injectors or is it still stock injectors? And do you know what your boost pressure is with the tune?

Still runs great. Going it perform a compression test in the spring along with new plugs to see how things are wearing. Currently running blue injectors, boosts to 16psi and I get it up there as often as I can.

So, how worthwhile is a R head swap? Thinking I may get one to rebuild and swap as a project to stave off boredom...

Technically I think the R head flows better but the reality is a good tune and turbo with supporting intake and exhaust is all you need. I easily outrun a stock R in my 2.3 C70 and keep up just fine with modded ones.

Very. Thats an easy 25 HP. Except its not added to the top its added to the whole curve. Free flowing head makes the turbo work less, creates less heat ect. I actually drove hounddoggers lava xc when it had an R head on it and it scooted good.

Noticed some paint chips on the XC that I'd like to touch up. Not too concerned with a 10/10 job, mostly want to protect the body, but of course I'll try to get the best results possible. Anyone have experience with the Genuine kit? Is this the kit to get? Experiences?

      Thanks.
