I like the side clips you've got too. I drive around like this..... more than I'd like to.

I've wondered if it could go on top of a basket for a while.

Just put 300mi on the XC this weekend and the rack setup is solid with the canoe up to 75mph facing strong gusts. Only a one night trip, about a 2h paddle and across one portage. Rained and thundered like hell overnight, broke by the morning, but then we got caught in another storm on the way out. Thankfully the wind was at our backs and the weather was hot, the rain was welcome and the kids didn't seem to mind as they kept on fishing.

      ...this was a lifesaver!

Just saw your post about your Carlisle camping trip. I didn't realize that you were camping at Poe Paddy. I've spent a lot of time on those mountain roads. My wife grew up about 10 minutes from there. And we currently only live about 45 minutes away. In-laws have a camp basically right next door. Maybe next year I could join you guys!

But did you find any of the old railroad tunnels while you were there?

I was chatting with a few other campers on the last day that mentioned them, but we didn't have enough time. I will be planning another trip to Poe Paddy.

Let me know. If I can't meet up with you, I can at least point you in the direction of some cool stuff to do.

Not a lot, but enough. Still getting some accumulation at the connections, but the pipe is dry.

A bit ghetto, but fully functional. Mounted a tire to a spare thor wheel to have a full sized spare...then I roofed it

$55 tire, mounted, and balanced. It's a 235/55R17 Michelin X ice from 2815. While it's a different tire than my current BFG Comp2 AS, and it's a winter tire, it's a lot better than the donut. This will not be a permanent fixture on the XC, currently 6 hours into a 24 hour drive to Winnipeg, and then off to parts be beyond... I'll be covering something like 5,000mi and 100 hours driving over the next 3 weeks, figured $55 for a little insurance is well worth it.

Stay tuned! I'll try update as I go along.

Good call--It kinda looked wrong without it. Haha. Sounds like an epic adventure. Some of you Volvo dads make me feel like an underachiever. You are a brace soul...and I'm sure a very fun dad.

I hear you. After my episode the other week I sourced another Mimas and it just fits in the wheel well. Not using that dumb spacesaver again.

Currently 1300mi into this trip and I still haven't reached Winnipeg. Driving through sunshiney North Dakota...roads for miles.

On my way up through Minneapolis last night I gave MN-TURBOR a shout to see if he was up for a quick meet. A few messages back and forth, and when I arrived at 1 a.m., MN-TURBOR and company organized a midnight meet up.

Pretty awesome. I'm really glad it worked out the way it did, talk Volvos with some local enthusiast and stretch the legs out for a little bit, also got some goodies

The trip so far has been going okay. I had to get a boost when I drain the battery in the parking lot, and I hit Chicago yesterday during rush hour traffic which was brutal. Oh and my fuel economy sucks. Currently averaging 15-16 MPG or 240 - 260 miles per tank, also pretty much running at 5 PSI constantly... wish me luck

Ahhhh yes, that would've been no fun anywhere near rush hour. We lived about an mile and a half from where 290 and 294 come together in a city called Elmhurst. I would've gladly offered cold beer, warm hospitality, Volvo conversation and playmates for your kids…but alas, life called us elsewhere. If your journeys ever take you down to the "heart of Dixie," the offer stands…

Nothing too exciting since my last post...

      Manitoba...

      Saskatchewan...

The XC found it's spirt animal in Moose Jaw.

...I found Pad Thai and some sleep.

Trip total is 1800mi and many more to go!

OMD. That's an epic journey. Had no idea until I looked at the map myself. You're almost in Bearclaw country or AdamNonis'...
Your back wheels are flaring out with negative camber or it's an illusion. Must be loaded up!

Yep, just the way it is loaded, It gains negative camber the lower it goes. I still have room to play with, haven't hit the bump stop yet

The XC has been tripping a P0136 that will clear then trip again after 1000mi. Seems like it trips on extended hill climbs in boost. No other codes with it. Pretty much going to ignore it until a get home. I have a high flow cat and O2 spacer installed, but this fault may be tripped due to a malfunctioning sensor...IRAQ.

The XC has been parked for a few days while we enjoyed some lazy days with family in Kaslo. Spent a lot of time on the beach.

Took a short hike up one of the peaks, and man I wish I had a mountain bike.

      Village of Kaslo

Early morning Sunday we packed up a set sail for new grounds.

This begins our return trip back home, A pretty big travel day along some really nice twisting roads with awesome views. We didn't have much time to appreciate the scenery, but the kids rate the roads 2 out of 2 vomits . Our destination for the night was Mt.Fernie Provincial Park located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. A beutiful area know for skiing in the winter, hiking/mountain biking in the summer.... My photography is lacking, but trust me, search for yourself.

On the move again this morning, destination Regina via the scenic Crowsnest Pass. First stop outside of Fernie is Sparwood to visit "The World's Largest Truck".

Frank Slide. Hopped around a boulder field for a nice break.

...then it's pretty much back on the praries for miles.

Oh and the XC, it's been doing well. The P0136 hasn't returned, but it did set a P0101 after the last hill climb. Figured it was a boost leak cause a hissing could be heard on boost. Drove it all the way to Swift Current like that, found a large enough park for the family to get lost in for an hour while I sorted it out. A little road side leak test.

I don't know what to think about the damaged O-ring, but the throttle inlet hose at the intercooler had pulled out from under the band clamp just a little bit and that's what set the code. Like not bad for almost 3k mi of sustained boost . Took only 40mins to sort out, had something to eat, then it was back on the road with the XC running strong . Thinking of treating the XC to an oil change while in Regina as it's approx 7k mi on the current 5w40... or maybe I can stretch it until I get home .

It's great to document part of this here for yourself and we are happy to get the opportunity to see it. Great pictures even though you think it's just a few.
Can't imagine the effort to change the control arms on that truck. Plus- where is the Spare?

      Started today off right....

      ...yummm

Yes I know, not camping, but we are only in Regina for a couple nights to visit more family and reorganize for the trip home. Wife will fly home from here, and I will trip with the boys home over the next few days camping along the north shore of Lake Superior.

XC got some much needed treatment!

A quick cleaning of the interior to get all the apple cores, spilled drinks, and gummy bears unstuck from the seats , and exterior to wash off the pounds of deceased insect carcasses. Also treated the XC to an oil change at The Great Canadian Oil Change. She got a fresh fill of Valvoline SynPower 5w40 and a Valvoline VO66 filter .

With the XC cared for, and the wife and kids keeping up appearances with the old folks, I took to the roads for a solo trip to Saskatoon, sans-kiddos and sans-Dutchman. Gave Legtayor a shout a few days back letting him know I was going to be local, he was able to organize an afternoon meet up with a few enthusiasts.

      Saskatoon Shines!

Legtayor has some high milage machines, and his T5 is running a Hilton Tune . Was interesting talking with him as he also had an ARD tune then later switch to Hilton....but we'll leave that right there.

On the way back I took to a back road to see what some of the country side had to offer, and while it wasn't much it was still a nice drive.

Tomorrow I'm off to Winnipeg for a quick vist then we're off into the wild for a few days. Check ya later!

Geez this Legtaylor guy sounds interesting...

Was good to meet you, loved seeing your machine and all the stuff under the hood. Particularly loved your water/meth injection system... I'll keep it a secret. Did you take your XC bombing through the ditch on those grids? That's the true Saskatchewan way.
