Been almost two weeks since I drove my XC...‎

Soooo... Finally got the valve body swapped in and man does it ever shift nice! I don't feel any of the upshifts or downshifts unless I'm using GT and revving high. Still having a slight clunking when shifting N-R or N-D and I'm quite sure that this is just some drivetrain slop from all the miles of abuse (which is to be expected) because say if I shift it in and out of drive twice the second shift into drive is like butter. Really sounds like the angle gear, someone suggest possibly early sign of collar sleeve wear (which I was going to service as a preventative measure...because I really have the time for that now...), but I really think it's just some internal wear in the transmission. Not going to address this unless it gets really aggravating or if something blows up...stay tuned

Where are you going to get the spring seats and strut mounts from?

Replaced about 10k mi ago. Should have done the struts at the same time, but I was being cheep. I got those from eeuroparts with their Canada direct option (duties paid) along with a bunch of other parts, when the dollar was better.

I did some comparisons between Rock Auto and Autopartsway and annoyingly, both have better prices for different parts!

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. Cross shopping is always good, but ultimately I find that for both service and price eeuroparts and rockauto offer the best. Let me know if you have other experiences.

      Just some randoms stuff

The rein bellow kit comes with a Volvo bellow and a bump stop from BASF, geat deal considering that just the Volvo bellow is about the same price.

Yes, Pentosin Super Dot 4. Was going to go with ATE TYP 200, but this will work well enough.

Some wear in the typical areas and one small cut around the outside that's hardly noticeable. Would have installed it tonight but I decied to replace the exhaust manifold gasket with the Snabb one piece (should have purchased an OE one piece) that I've been meaning to do for a while now, got it installed and it's running well. Took me a little under 5 hours.
Had a bit of free time (trapped in the car with sleeping todlers) and didn't realize at the time of purchase that it was off a 04 so the electrical is not compatible. Seller was selling it as an 05 wheel so I assumed it would be compatible, really didn't know what too look out for but I knew there was a difference between years, found a date stamp on it for 2003 during install. Seller has an 05 wheel and gave me an 04 wheel by mistake, will be picking it up today or tomorrow. Oh and yeah, totally a 15min swap including the 3mins you wait after disconnecting the battery.

      FYI:
What to look for date stamp and electrical connector. The electrical connector for 01-04 is a female connector, 05+ is a male connector, contact reel on 01-04 has a wiring harness with a male connector, 05+ has a female connector at the contact reel. Air bag is compatible all years.

      Comparison: XC70 05 wheel to 04 R wheel

Man, I feel your pain. I learned that lesson in the car with the wheel and airbag off. Haha. But I was in the reverse position—05 wheel on an 03 car. I've still got the switch panel off an 05 R wheel that I'll sell you on the cheap if his 05 wheel is beat. Just let me know.

I have two holes on back of wheel and two holes on side of wheel. Maybe the sides might work?

XC70 wheel: 2 T30 screws accessed through the holes on the sides of the wheels on a 45* angle.

R wheel: turn the wheel 90*, two holes behind the wheel have a spring that you need to pry open.

3rd gear, TC locked, 2k to rev limit. Between 5.5k-6k MAF is reading ~900kg/h.

not to dramatic, but shows power/boost through the RPM range. Looking to book the dyno within the next two weeks if I can find the time.

Also noticed an oil leak tonight, can't tell where with the engine cover, but it's at the back. Must be the turbo drain or something since I was just working back. there... or RMS

Thors are good, stylish wheels, suit the P2s well, and take a beating. I use them for winters for a reason.

Thors look great! Is it normal for the rear wheels to be so far forward? I've only seen that on slammed cars

The short answer: yes, but no. Antherzoll's wheel does look a bit more forward than normal even accounting for size increase.

On stock tire/wheel it's still forward justified, but not as noticeable. I've increased overall diameter by about 3/4" and the appearance of the wheel shifting forward becomes more pronounced.

      On stock rims

      On Sparco

Front of rear fender gap with a brand new 215/70r16 tire

This is one of the reasons fitting larger tires is such a ****ing pain

What are your impressions of them by now? I've gotten a few comments on mine from passers-by liking the more aggressive tread pattern.

Yes, I am interested in how you are liking them also. Prolix is saying they are a little rough on his car, and after driving his car I would have to agree. It appears that you have replaced your suspension recently, so I am interested in how they ride with fresh shocks and struts.

      Btw, the Thors look great!!

      Thanks for the comments guys.

I've only driven the XC home from the shop, maybe like 2 km as 50km/h so I can't say much, but I do like them better than the Q rated dry rotting winter tires they replaced. Parallel parking does take a bit more effort (I don't turn my tires unless they are rolling, drives me crazy when I see people grind their tires like that). Gong to check what PSI the shop has set them at and maybe play around with the setting until I find the sweet spot. What are you running yours at?

I asked the shop to perform an alignment but they said the inner tie rod has play and didn't do it, these shops always find something, probobly don't want them aligning it anyways. I didn't noticed any play last time I checked and I'm to busy right now (worked a 16h night shift). Going to drop it off at my mechanic's tonight and have him take a look and have his guy align it.

The Thors look great in pictures but up close they are rough, not that I really care I think they are awesome, they were only $250 and with no dents or bends, they fill the need. The winter Thors for next season are brutal, but agian I don't care.

      Total: $756.69 all-in
      $706.69 after mail-in rebate

The BFG Comp 2 tires are definitely more performance oriented. They have exceptional grip and handling but it comes at the cost of ride comfort and road noise.

Something more well rounded might be better suited for our Volvos.
