Getting pretty good at this. Popped out the temporary Trakmotive axle for a GKN XC90 axle today. Feels much better having an OE part in the vehicle.

All this before I take the XC and Viking on a 8k km road trip... Stay tuned.

Nice work. I didnít find removing the axle that hard. I did have it popped out and back in fairly quick, however, still didnít get to replace the seal. Iíll be taking it in to have it done.

What happened to your old trailer?

Water issue leading to rot and soft spots in areas. Still ok enough to use with some repairs, but it's time for an upgrade. A buddy of mine is taking it for the month of August then it's up for sale.

That looks like fun! I've done most of that at some time, except for the Toronto to Winnipeg and Vancouver parts. Hopefully, your taking plenty of time to enjoy it.

Most of my time will be spent in BC. Pretty much driving through the states as a shortcut. My family is already out there, they flew out a week ago, so we are all meeting up then taking our time to trip back.

      Morning in Wisconsin.

It's been a crazy couple days fast tracking through the US. Quickly visited a few monuments and state park and just kept on going. From Saturday evening to Tuesday night I covered ~2700mi, taking the scenic route through areas and some time to check out a few things.

Made it to our destination, Kaslo BC, on Tuesday night where we are posted up for a few days before we start our return trip home. A nice relaxing ferry ride across Kootenay Lake.

      Village of Kaslo

Some lazy days around the village with some day trips. Yesterday's adventure was a climb up to Buchanan Lookout. 6272ft.

Looks great! We did NY to AZ to MT and back in 2008. Hit many of those locations. 8k miles in 4 weeks.

      Dear Antherzoll,

I've been following yout thread for years, right now i'm building XC70 with td04hl-19t and R airbox + R MAF. Could you please suggest me what type of intake pipe you are using for your R airbox?
      Is it do88 or snabb?
My concern is that K24 has got 70mm intake housing and 16T has got 60mm intake housing, so i am afraid that S60R intake pipe from snabb or do88 won't fit the 16T/19T config...

Thanks in advance for your coop
      Dmitry.

I had the TD04 IPD pipe, hacked out a section then used a coupler. I I were to do it from new I would get the R pipe and try to get a reducer.

Wanna get a pair of 07 or XC90 headrests with integrated monitors? Long road trips is a favorite time for my two now They stare at their zombification devices, IR-headphones attached, kept absolutely quiet, while happy parents listen to audio books through the central speaker in dashboard that I run through a separate amplifier, or talk to each other without whining and constant interruptions.

I get it, and I would, but the transition from zombie to life can be just as big of a ****e storm with my kids. We can usually get 2h in of solid driving before any real upsets, break for 1h, then get another 2h in. We're averaging 3h travel every day on the way home stopping for a couple days in places. The trip home will be ~4100km.

I prefer to drive the three kids overnight. That can get you 6 to 8 hours of peaceful travel in a best case scenario.

      Thanks guys.

Packed and loaded. Back on the road today. ~2500mi home over the next 16 days... I think she's a bit loaded

Still lots of room to play with, but I should transfer more weight to the trailer.

Helps if you're front tires touch the ground!

They do make mini weight distributing hitches for smaller trailers. I've also seen cargo racks that go over the roof of pop ups. Keeps some of the weight off the car.

I was looking at sizing one for the trailer, but ran out of time before the trip. Volvo's recommend trailer weights are kind of strange and there's no weight distributing rating, I'm unsure of how much weight distribution that towbar can support. If you have any information please let me know.

Depends on what class your hitch is. Class 4 & 5 are weight distributing, as well as weight carrying. These typically have a 2" receiver. Class 4 is 6000/600 lbs (trailer/tongue) weight carrying and 10000/1000 lbs weight distributing.

Class 3, is typically weight carrying only. Usually a 1.25" receiver, but could be 2". Class 3 is 3500/350 lbs.

Here's a link for the Reese Mini 350 hitch.

I feel like you should be forwarding your pics to Volvo....Worst case you wind up with nothing. Best case you wind up with worldwide notoriety and a bunch of freebies - if not a free car. LOL

Class 2 is 3500/350 which the XC70 is but Volvo recommends 3300/165 max with brakes and a 2" receiver.
      Class 3 is 6000/600 is the XC90.

I've seen quite a few small to midsized SUVs towing big trailers with WD hitches and only being rated for Class 2 which makes me wonder if the XC70 could handle a light one, or if RV dealers are just upselling.

Well, RV dealers are notorious for selling trailers too big for the tow vehicle. As long as it makes it off the lot....

With a 2" receiver, I'd think you would be able to use a small WD system. You should check to make sure the trailer tongue can handle it. I've seen bent tongues with over-sized WD set ups.

One downside of WD is slight loss of traction due to less weight on the rear axle. So, something to consider when you go "off the beaten path".
