That is definitely not a 780. I don't even think it's a Volvo. It looks more American.

Did Volvo ever use four wheel bolts? .... and a gas door that stayed in place?
      .
      Maybe a new concept vehicle?

Notice the center caps on the wheels. The car is a BMW.

That looks like an 80s Nissan Maxima or a Toyota. It's not a BMW or Volvo.

Yes Volvo used 4 lug wheels on the gen 1 S40.

I have owned 2 780 Bertones, look at the front air dam , the power seat controls, the plastic cover where the the lower seat joins with the back rest and small 2 leather head rests in the rear, that is a 780 Bertone. It has cheap allow wheels installed with BMW center caps. the owner may have sHaved a wheel lug off to fit the cheap alloy wheels

The rear bumper cover doesn't match (also there's a red reflector) and the antenna is missing on the quarter panel. Wheel arches are the wrong shape. The rear headrest don't look right to me, where are the openings? But who knows, I'm no 780 expert.

I just noticed the rear drums, I could have sworn that was a 780. I also just noticed the side marker in the rear valance that weren't present on the Bertone
The side of the seats looks similar but I don't see the large lumbar support knob Volvo used nor the lever for rear passenger ingress/egress:

Honest mistake. Car is definitely reminiscent of a 780.

What is it then ? I have been googling images of older Audis, Alfa Romeo & Maserati sedans but haven't found a match. It does appear to have a latch for rear doors which of course I didn't notice previously - I thought the metal had just been sawed off post B-pillar if it were a 780. I also assumed the headrest had been removed if it were a 780. If American I was thinking maybe a Pontiac 6000 but those have round filler door openings.

Assuming this image was made in NA (I'm thinking Alabama Science School, "ASS" ...LOL!) ... and that the steering is, indeed, LH/ or the image has not beer reversed LH-RH ... then the gas door is on the wrong side.

Not sure about the gas door side...do not claim to be an expert w/ Toyotas!

I thought that Toyota Cressidas had been imported in the U.S., back in the late '80s, no?

I'm no expert either. Yes, they did get imported to US. And the earlier models had four-bolt wheels, I think. I just can't tell if this image is reversed or not ... or, the real question, is it really LH drive? If the image is not reversed, then I think the gas door is on the wrong side for a Cressida.

I think it might be a 1980s 3 series BMW. Everything I've looked at fits... except the location of the gas filler door. I'm not much into BMW so I don't know the model variations and don't know which, if any, models/years has the gas filler on the driver side.

Thanks for the clue... how about a 1987 Nissan Stanza? It looks close but the rear tail light is too far forward in comparison to the lower side marker light. We're getting close.

I don't think the Stanza existed in the US. The Sentra is the US equivalent.

I've sen them with and without the gas door lock so that's a non-issue.
