      Puddle Lamp Removal

      Hey everyone.
I was wanting to remove the bulb in my puddle lamp and replace it with an LED.
I know it takes a 194 bulb but I can't figure out how to take the bulb out of the mirror. Thanks

You have to remove the glass mirror, position it fully in nearest car a tilting out, with its wide screwdriver going behind at the side and fingers pulling the top away it should come free, bit nerve racking. With glass off you will see a plastic clip which can be pushed to real lamp housing for lamp access. Did mine recently, full led upgrade. Mines a UK 2011 model, the puddles were wedge type and light from the side instead of down.

attach screenshot which is actually part of the instruction for removing the rear mirror housing, but the image shows the direction the mirror is removed, you should see a small plastic push clip behind the main housing at the bottom, push the plastic catch with a screwdriver to release the lens housing.
you do not need to go further than picture 3, the puddle lens and electrical connector can be fed out by a little bit of manoeuvring.

no problem, just don't move onto step 4 as that releases the rear housing! just went out and took quick picture of ours, all internals are now led, are you replacing the inside with led's as well?

Not right now. I have a Beige interior so I'm not sure how good the cool blueish color of the LEDs will look. Nice car by the way. Is yours a D5?

D5 Rdesign 205 bhp, had it since December, 1 owner, high miles (110k) but you would not think so, love the D5 engine. I think the led upgrade just makes the car look modern and up to date, you wont need to go too bright internally with beige leather, keep the actual number of leds per wedge/festoon low, even single led which I have in the foot well is plenty bright enough, it is also nice to be able to see what you and your passengers are doing when you get in.
Keep me posted on your progress, what external colour is your XC?

If you didn't, flip the bulb around because most LEDs are polarity specific.

Tried again today with different bulbs, same result just a flash of light. When I flip the bulb the other way I get nothing, lost on this one.

Have you tried the bulb in another place to see if it actually is working right? If you haven't Put it in the front side marker. Just remove the two headlight retainers and the headlight will be loose. pull it out far enough so you can gain access to the bulb and twist the socket and pull it out.

That's really strange. I was going to do mine sometime this summer. I'm going to try the Sylvania Zevo bulbs. My car is a 2011.5 w/ blis too so fingers crossed! Can someone who's a Volvo tech or something chime in?

      Hi,
Resurrecting an old thread but wondering on a solution to this.
I have tried Osram wedge LEDs in the door mirrors and get the same problem and was wondering if the collective have overcome this?
Some LED suppliers recommend locking/unlocking the car a few times for it to recognise the bulbs and erase any fault codes. Any logic to this?
      TIA

Yes, I figured it out! Use the Ziza branded 194/T10 LEDs from ECS tuning. They are CANbus compatible and work as intended. Here is the link to where you can buy them (they are sold in packs of 1 so you'll need to order 2)- https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ziza-par...1081210wht~zi/ The reason the light just flashes briefly and then turns off, its because the car thinks there is a short in the regular LED bulbs so it disables power to the circuit to prevent what it thinks could be an electrical fire. I did some investigating with VIDA and figured it all out. I've been running the Ziza ones in my XC60 for about a year and a half and 35,000 miles with no issues at all. I just completely forgot to update this thread. Hope this helps!!
