      ETM exchange/repair

      Hey guys
I know about Xemodex and the excellent service they provide rebuilding ETM and other Volvo electronics but did i read someone on here can exchange or knows which ones are swap-able between cars without getting into compatibility issues?
On my last road trip mine S60 B5244s gave me a scare when the accelerator pedal kinda felt dead and engine hesitating, fuel mileage fell off a cliff. No Codes/MIL though.
After safely pulling off the highway and parking. Turned engine off then back on to reset it ran fine the rest of the trip.
I had my wife's ETM rebuilt at Xemodex for $600. and her car idles glass smooth now. It was always hunting at idle before.
      I don't feel like spending $600 if i don't have too.
      cheers
      Dean

If you get one from the same engine type it should be plug-and-play. Doesn't have to be the same year. So any N/A P2 S60/V70/etc with a B5244S (I don't believe there was a change over the facelift/electronics change, anyone know for sure?)

Yes Matt I recall reading something like that too but I think transmissions are involved too because I did find an ETM from automatic car B5244S at scappers and plugged it in and No sir she did not play nice. My cars are both M56.,,Hell they'd all be Manual if i was in charge! ;-)

      No.

It really is as cut and dry as turbo and na being the only differences.

Doesn’t mean the used one was good.

If the symptoms didn’t change however it may not be the etm. There’s a lot more than just the throttle body that gets to provide input to the throttle system. Brake, clutch sensors, maf, abs signal ect.

Really, so even 2.5T vs. T5 vs. R are all the same? Awfully handy if so.

Agreed that if a used na ETM didn't fix the issue, either it was a bad used ETM or I'd be looking at cleaning the MAF as a next step...

2.5t and R cars have ETAs.

What year car are you talking about.

Bah, stupid similar but different name. Guess I was mainly thinking about my '01 (which already died 58kmi ago), but keeping my '06 in mind just in case. I'll go do my reading instead of mucking up deano's thread and/or relying on my spotty memory.

It hasn't been a 100% success rate in my experience.

Back in late 2010, I I bought a JY ETM that had a March 2008 manufacture date sticker on it. I pulled it off of a '99 S70 LPT. That ETM looked brand new. I installed it on my '00 XC and it worked great for many years until I donated the car.

Later, I bought a 3 month old Xemodex ETM from a guy parting out his junked 2001 NA S60, he had the original receipt and everything. It should have worked on my '02 NA, but the Xemodex ETM made my '02 NA run very poorly. I ended up going back to the previous ETM.

The ETM's are different between 2001 and 2002. If anyone needs a yellow label 2001 (and a little earlier I think) turbo ETM you can have my spare for the cost of shipping.

This is all good info..And yes that one from scrapper was untested.
So Scottish if what you're saying is true then that would be why Xemodex needed VIN to repair my wifes V70 ETM?
So If anyone has ETM for base model B5244S N/A ,,Give me a shout!
      Cheers
