Frame rail spacing is for safety, besides the R's p2s have killer turning radius, at least mine does?
I always wondered what potential there was in the 6. But, if the transmission was crap, I can see why it was never developed much beyond what it was.

I had always heard that the P2 frame rail spacing was driven by the desire to accommodate the 6.

It's sad when my crew cab, long bed truck has about the same turn radius as my V70.

I completed some pre Vermont trip repairs and maintenance on the 02 XC. Started with a passenger front axle, front brake pads and pass engine mount, installed new style PS reservoir and hose(No more leak!!),
oil change, B4 servo cover and trans drain and fill(old style cover, washer just fell out!!),VIDA TCM adaptation, new wiper blades and adjusted the arms, and finally mounted the roof box for the snowboards.
Quite a busy day, but start to finish with a few breaks and dealing with customers took about 5 hours

What steering stops are you using? My 03 has about a 20 foot turning circle

Whatever is used for the 235/45-17 wheel/tire combo. They are black, IIRC. And things still rub, worse now that it's lowered. Even the 215/55-16 winter setup rubs slightly.

Hmm. Were running the same exact wheels (your summers) but im running a 225 width. No rub even lowered and your exact springs were on my car at one point. How much front camber are you running? Orrrrrr actually does your wagon have the steel lower control arms that start in 07?

Hm. Well that may be the difference then. How ambitious are you about a subframe swap? IIRC you dont have delrin subframe bushings yet?

Not that ambitious, unless a manual transmission swap ever happens. Then, I'll have so much money sunk into that, that I won't want too spend anymore anyway. I thought the only LCA difference was on the ball joint end, not in how they mounted to the subframe. But, I've never seen the two side by side.

What did you do to your wagon today?

Some time ago I replaced driver side mirror assy. Needless to say, I have a wandering non heated mirror. Is there anything in VIDA I can do to Ďreprogramí the car so it accepts donor mirror and functions properly. Though I could live with it as is, in $hitty weather the mirror is not dry and is unusable.

As an aside, for those in Canada and primarily in GTHA (Toronto area) volvo of Toronto has really reduces their prices up to 15% to 20%. As my AOC pump bass started crunching at startup, I picked up an OEM about $370 CAD. Much better that about $500 quotes at other dealership.

      Thanks and cheers.

What year did the new mirror come from? Needs to be on the same side of the 05 split as your car.

Replaced the windshield on my 03 after a cargo mishap.
Roof was started to rust along the leading edge and Safelite refused to do the install because of that. Ended up doing it myself after some minor rust repair.

Cut down some silver S60 trim pieces I had laying around to fit the XC70. The old ones were crumbling to nothing.

Started prepping the V70 for a road trip this morning in the sunny 14 deg weather. Topped fluids as necessary. Then, decided to check the LF inner CV on the axle I just swapped. Reached in to find more grease than expected. Hmmm. Not feeling the boot clamp. WTF? Get a flashlight for a better look. Sure enough, inner boot clamp MIA. Boot still on the inner cage, which was good. So, it popped off sometime in the past 3 days. No big screw clamps around for a temporary fix. A less than 30 minute fix, if I had the time. Parking the V70 and taking the Camry I guess.

Well, putting the original axles back in appears to have eliminated the vibrations when accelerating. So, that's good.

So it turns out that when you cut off 1/2" of material and retap a new hole that 2012 kia sorento roof rails fit a xc70

Saturday the two tailgate struts I ordered two days previously arrived. Looked on YT on how to replace the ones that were shot, took about twenty minutes to do. Fiddly part was the little clips on the ball joints. I discovered a little switch on a length of coiled cable under the rear fuse box; I wondered if perhaps it was to turn on/off the parking sensors? It seems to be wired into the rear left lighting cluster.

This is on my list of things to do, as well.

Walked out to use the 06 XC70 yesterday only to find one of the crappy old Mastercraft tires, that it came to me with, nearly flat. Decided it wasn't worth bothering with and ordered new Nokian eNTYRE 2.0's.

Worked today on getting the new-to-me 07 XC70 up to speed. Part of the negotiation on the car involved a vibration under acceleration (and also when sitting still). First thing to address was the very failed upper and lower torque mounts (replaced today). The driver's seat panel was broken, as usual, so I replaced that item. I removed the 1" cabin filter (which was shockingly clean) and replaced it with a 1.5" activated filter. I was going to replace the engine air filter, but it looked basically new. In the last few miles of my several hundred mile drive home from picking the car up, I got an incredibly brief and intermittent "No Oil Pressure" message. The car was very due for an oil change and the last filter change was done at a quick lube using conventional oil and a non-OEM filter. I decided to add some Seafoam to the oil, then took it out and ran it good and hard for about 20 minutes. I drove it back home and then immediately dropped the oil. It was super dirty, thin, and brown. Of course, adding some fun to the adventure, I had to use an impact wrench to remove the oil filter housing. I started off with my cheapo 3/8" drive filter wrench and the filter wrench broke. I switched to my "Heavy Duty" 1/2" drive filter wrench and after applying full torque finally got it free. I replaced the housing, in case it had been ruined. I'm going to run some short intervals, with Seafoam at the end of each, to try and clean out the system. We'll see if dropping the oil pan ends up needing done.

Coming up soon will be replacing the droopy sun visor and tailgate struts.

Had two DIM lights go out last week, fiddling with them caused another to go out too...Decided it would be interesting to see if I could get my '04 "executive" DIM to play nice in my '02 XC...nope, now I've got no lighting on bottom displays AND a yellow exclamation mark (presumably suggesting that someone screwed with the DIM). Nothing VIDA can't clear, I'm sure but for reference, an '04 DIM won't work in an '02 even though plugs are compatible.

Got this swapped today. Couldn't have been much easier. Also replaced the missing door lock bushings on both the 06 & 07. Tailgate struts will have to be another day.

Also began the interior deep cleaning process on the 07. Vacuuming and scrubbing and vacuuming and scrubbing. At least all the interior plastics and buttons look clean now.

Edit: When I got the 07 I noticed the windshield (original) is very worn (like the windshield wipers were run when it was dirty and dry). In certain lights it's pretty annoying to look through. Definitely livable, but not ideal. Looked up my auto insurance coverage and found a $250 glass deductible. Got the thought; I wonder what it would cost to have Volvo "Blue Box" glass shipped to me from an online Volvo parts dealer. Well, several of the common names we're familiar with put that shipping cost at >$250 (the same amount as the cost of the glass). BUT....I found one who quoted shipping at ~$30 and was offering a 15% coupon code. I added the glass, plus the Volvo adhesive kit, and checked out for $290. Now, time will tell if they actually honor this or not. I wouldn't be surprised if they will not, but I figured it was worth a shot. Fingers crossed!

Annoyingly the DIMs are only 03+ compatible

      For my Canadian brothers.

Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0w30 is on sale at CT for $32.99ea. That's $27 off regular. Sale ends today!

Pennzoil also has a $10 rebate on 5L

      https://www.pennzoil.com/en_ca/promo...S9PMTkwNi9jYS8

      $22.99/5L for some great oil!

Been told that it's rebranded Sheel Hilux and is a heavy 0w30, but check it.

Iím somewhat leery of 0w- for these engines. My buddy ran 0W-40 and spun a bearing so I stay with 5W or 10W.

      Just superstition I suppose ...

I've run 0W-40 in 7 different white blocks over the course of 6 years, absolutely zero issues. I think your buddies car was just going to spin a bearing no matter what oil was in it.

On topic: I put in those Osram nigh breaker bulbs in the ABL's and they are wonderfully bright. Don't have a standard bulb comparison, but I can tell a big difference in output. For $150 I should right?

Also installed GROM3 unit because FM radio was killing me.

I've been running 0w40 for years. This 0w30 is on the heavy end so I don't feel worried using it.

The (#)W doesn't really matter except at cold start. Lower numbers mean better flow when its at freezing or below. The W(#) is viscosity at boiling point of water and most likely where your friend spun a bearing. Were i a betting man i would say he was 3/4 of a quart low and was running an engine that had not had the oil pickup tube updated or oil pickup system o rings refreshed.
