“The interiors will start at $4500, which includes materials and installation of new seat leather skins, door panels, center arm rest cover. The service is available in Los Angeles or Boston area”.

I chose to go to a local auto interior upholstery shop. His price was in line with George’s. A variable is what quality of leather you choose. I chose a more expensive Audi leather, and had the seat backs done in leather rather than pleather. I’m happy with the result....

It's off to the indy for the new axles to be installed and the ECT to be replaced with one from Volvo. Before I take it there, I decided to swap out the worn out ignition switch. Quick and easy job, cheap part, but boy does it make turning the key a more pleasant experience. The 07's key turn was super sloppy with no stops left at any of the positions. Now, it's nice and smooth, with crisp positions.

ECT sensor is literally a 2 min job with the new style thermostat housing. just have the new one in your other hand as you're unscrewing the old one and you can skate on draining the coolant lol

Make sure you take the reservoir cap off first to relieve any pressure, only took one time to never forget that again hahah

I'd do it cold and leave it on. opening the cap up will let coolant come out faster.

Grad school tour #2 complete. 673 miles over 25 hours, departure to return. Saw a nice V70 eastbound on US33, east of Wapakoneta, OH this evening.

Unfortunately, the vibration issue I've been dealing with for the past several months, got much worse after about 250 miles. Significant, high frequency vibration under load between 60-70 MPH. It's vibrating interior parts noticeably now. Smooths out a bit around 75 or when coasting. Seems worse when the car is cold. Still have a 600 mile haul home.

Did an oil change used some 15w50 Mobil 1. Will have to see how it looks after 3k. Ended up disassembling, rebuilding, and cleaning up my IPD catback. I was getting tired of the drone at highway speeds, put some chicken wire roll behind the tips. (Removed tips, installed section of chicken wire roll) So far it seems promising, drone is almost non existent, and overall the exhaust has a smoother sound.

I was pretty sure I could do it that way since it's not directly under anything anymore, but I'm already dropping the car off for the axles, so it was too easy to not have to do it myself. lol If the parts would have arrived a few days before I was dropping the car off, I'd likely have given it a shot.

590 mile dash home today. 28 and 28.5 MPGs for each tank. A little more like normal. 1900 miles over the week. The drivetrain vibration comes and goes, oddly. It peaks around 60-70 MPH when under load, but starts around 45. Now that I'm home, I can poke at it a little more.

I modified needlenose pliers to my own turbo tongs once.

Vibrations are the worst... just rotated my tires and cleaned out some caked dirt inside the back wheels, all smooth again.

installed another one of these ebay dp's on the 03, had to hone out the flange a bit to fit, but it worked.

they dont last long, 5 years tops, then youll be welding up holes, do not recommend

These snap ring pliers lock. It’s the killer feature:

Makes working on the cold side of TD04s much easier. Still gotta wear eye protection cause that ring is very spooky when they get loose

If I'm remembering correctly what he told me (I was outside splitting wood), apparently the shop who previously replaced it had split the two pieces of the housing and then applied gasket material to put it back together. When he looked down into the thermostat housing, he could see gasket maker pushing out all around. Whatever was happening in there had started leaking out the thermostat (I had seen leaking fluid but wasn't sure of the source, so this checks out) and corrosion was building up.

I ground tips into a pair of needle nose vise grips and that works well.

Picked up an order from Volvo today. Tossed in the rear door washer 9487627 with the order cause why not?

Just a simple flat plate with a hole that allows the rear doors to open wider. I'm not sure by how much, but I'll measure before/after when installed. Anyone could easily make one, but for the cost and time it was easier just to buy it. Anyways, If you want to DIY one is measures 35.5mm X 40mm X 3mm. Hole is 9mm located 13mm on center.

I chose to go to a local auto interior upholstery shop. His price was in line with George’s. A variable is what quality of leather you choose. I chose a more expensive Audi leather, and had the seat backs done in leather rather than pleather. I’m happy with the result....

did something about this leak that was dribbling down my turbo. i've had the grommet out over 2 years ago and it did not seal good when i put it back in.
today took it back out and filled the gap with some black gasket maker. no after pic.

Interesting. Wonder how far you could extend the door open until it hit something wither at full open or at close with the check strap compressed.

Thanks! I'll probably go that route next time.

Just wanted to make sure that was the source of oil and it looks like it was

Oil is coming from PCV. Unless oil separator is badly clogged, the primary reason for oil to escape the engine is a lot of blow-by gases, meaning compression rings do not seal properly.

You may want to install an oil catch can. A few of us already did that (Antherzol, me).

I redid the breather system some years ago making sure to unclog the block.

Its just 2 years of daily cold mornings and monthly long distance trips.

What stumps me is this pipe is normally under vacuum unless I am perceiving that wrong.

It is not under vacuum on loaded engine with a lot of blow-by gases. It does not have capacity to create vacuum, to long and too narrow. And very little vacuum in general before the turbo.
