Quick question; does Cruise control on P2 (2004 XC70) use vacuum or something else? I have some pulsations when running under load (incline).

It's all electronic. Could be the BCS/TCV.

      Overdue updates:

Bled the brakes with DOT4 LV which helped improved pedal feel, but I was still unhappy with braking performance. So I upgraded the front brakes from 286mm Chinesium rotors to 305mm Zimmermans. Significant improvement in pedal feel and response, and a noticeable improvement in stopping power. Paired with Textar pads for proper ECE R90 goodness. This is how the car should've shipped, the 286mm brakes are a joke.

Also found that my rear LCA bushings are starting to go. These are unknown aftermarket arms with ~40k km on them, which seems to be the expected lifespan of aftermarket arms.

The plan was to replace with Lemforder arms until I learned that their quality tanked since they began manufacturing them in Taiwan. Perhaps Original Volvo is the way to go now. Fun fact: Lemforder strut bearings are now made in China and are also of poor quality.

Any recommendations on best method to replace the LCAs? Removing the hub seems like the easiest:

Do the pulses show up on the tach or just a feeling through the drivetrain? I just had to replace the front axles on the 07 XC70 because it would develop serious hesitations going up hill that got worse the harder you pressed the accelerator. You could feel it in the pedals, seat, and the wheel. I imagine the same thing would have happened if I tried it using cruise.

Well, this never would have fit in the V70. Good thing I decided to go with the Titan, despite the 16 MPG. Helps to have a different sized vehicles, for different jobs. Daughter packed up and out of her dorm at 1215am Friday. By the time we get home, I will have driven 4600 miles in almost 5 weeks. I'm ready for some isolation!

Ever have any issues with catalytic converters or head gaskets with the Titan?

Exhaust manifold, yes. Head gaskets, no. Never heard of anyone having head gasket issues. The converter is part of the exhaust manifold. Fixed under the emissions warranty.

Oh that’s nice. That would have probably been pretty expensive if it wasn’t covered under a warranty

We got word that we’ve got to clear dorm this week. Luckily before the initial spring break clear my son brought home a ton. The balance will have to fit in the XC with a roof box. Big flat screen, mattress topper, two xboxes (why??), lots of clothes, food.

It would have been $1k+, IIRC. Need to raise the engine a couple of inches to get enough clearance. Tubular exhaust manifolds and water don't mix.

She usually brings home winter stuff at spring break. But, she went to a chemistry convention this year instead. We go to her end of semester concerts and haul stuff back. So usually, everything fits in the various cars. Not when it all has to happen in one trip.

Had a weird Volvo-related dream (nightmare?) last night. Bought a black XC70 for a winter car, through some sort of auction thing. When I get it, the whole underside is rusted, one fender was painted with a brush, and I have no idea if the AWD system works. WTF kind of dream is that?

my mild shake under acceleration and cornering is now replaced with a very low pitched kind of repeating sound that gets faster as i go faster or louder as i corner harderr. I'm thinking wheel hub? There is no longer any shake at all under load so I'm kinda ruling out the axles...

Slalom and see if you can figure out which side it is. It will be louder on the wheel taking the load.

Possible they’re both bad but yeah one side should be louder and obvious if it’s a bearing/hub.

Been about 30k miles since purchase so I’ll probably just grab both fronts. Getting a decently big service soon when an “essential” landscaping spot opens up (gotta keep that grass maintained).
Intake pipe, do88 intercooler, thermostat, coolant sensor, summer tires, trans and oil changes, timing service, and a wasteGate adjustment. The hubs, and then finally can get a tune. May be getting some rims too.
Till then this pandemics got me week to week tbh! Was fine till an update today and our hours got slashed by about 50%

That’s awful. We’re all enduring/sharing some level of load here. I’d say do with what you have and mod later and buy summers later. If you have all season they’ll be fine.

OEM volvo bushing is $23 PN 8630605 seems easiest to just replace

Installed the E Codes in my dad's wagon, so far they look so much cleaner! No more ugly orange reflector. Will update with photos of the light pattern.[IMG]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200322/96c760d1b494c7d5e9f4279ce20b06c4.jpg[/IMG
