Gosh...Whats this oil in my Spark PLug area?! Help?

I removed my spark plug wires, and upon removing them, it seems oil has been in some of my spark plug holes. #3 is the worst, #2 & #4 are a little bad, and #1 and #5 are pretty clean. Also my wires have discoloration in accordance with the most oil. I never noticed this before when i changed my plugs at nite, but is it normal?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I could be wrong but I see two possible reasons:

      1. The oil cap is old, or use to be old before you bought the car. Or rubber gasket on the cap was old. Small consistent seepage of oil all the time…Before to sell the car the previous owner washed the engine. Even probably took off the wire cover and washed the top of the valve cover.. Take a look at image 3172.. The oil spread has clear “center alignment” – you got most of oil in center cylinder..

The second idea… I even not sure if there are such part on this engine… The rubber O-rings between valve cover and engine head became worn out and leak some oil to the spark plug compartment..

      Hope it makes sense.

I can't view the pics for some reason but there is a seal, grommet, etc that has a line passing through it on the valve cover. This "seal" tends to go bad causing oil seap all over the valve cover. I will try to view the pics on another computer later on today and hopefully I will be able to point out what I am talking about.

Ok, take a look at photos 1732, that line going into the vavle cover is your problem. If you look just to the right of that you will see that plug#3 is the one accumelating all the oil. This is a common problem, how hard it is to fix I don't know. Ask Rich Kelly(bay13) over at volvospeed.com, he should be able to tell you exactly what to do.

Thanks Greg, I emailed Rich, and will see what he has to say.
