Just bought a crazy clean S60R (with a great story behind it)

After years of being a car enthusiast and owning everything from heavily modded 300ZXTT's, 600 HP 03 Cobras, Audis, etc.. but never owning a Volvo, I bought a V50 6 speed a couple weeks ago after giving up my search for a clean, local, unmolested, reasonably priced S60R. Welp, two days *after* I bought the V50, an S60R became available. 10 miles away.

Long story short, the moons aligned, I found a buyer for the V50 and now the S60R is mine.
This car was owned by Cary Wilson, (chief of electronics at Ford when he got the car). Massive car nut. He has a 64 1/2 mustang he got when he was 16 and it has something ridiculous like 13,000 original miles on it.
I can only imagine what the rest of his collection looks like, but I'd love to see it someday.

I bought the Volvo from his son and his dad's OCD car care ethic must have rubbed off on him, because not only does this car have borderline ridiculous maintenance records, but it's cosmetically near perfect, too.
And when I say near perfect, it's perfect. It's the kind of "near perfect" you get with a brand new car.

No dents, no dings. No fading. No stains or rips in the interior. New tires, brakes, etc... Just borderline insane levels of car care, and it's never slept a night outside. Very faint road rash on two of the wheels. I mean BARELY.
I've also been told this very car was on the podium at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show as Cary was with Ford during the Ford/Volvo merger.

So anyway, here she is and she's all mine. I'm holding onto this one for awhile =o)

Yay, we're twinsies! Although, sadly, yours is much cleaner than mine. Beautiful! Congrats on the buy! Couldn't have picked a better one, for sure.

Any chance you'd give up how much they were asking for it?

It has the R-Design steering wheel, which makes me insanely jealous!

Nice find. I've had or have most every car you listed above too. The R sure is a worthy car among the others. So where R you located?

It does have satin trim piece at bottom of steering wheel, but it's definitely not R Design. Beautiful R and great find though.

It's the same wheel newer R-Designs get just without the badge. A great upgrade for our cars. I can't wait to have a reason to put one on my car.

      Thanks everyone!
It has 141K, but you'd never know it.
I'm in Orlando, but this was a Georgia car until very recently.

Fortunately, it has a manila envelope stuffed with documentation of what was done, including new brakes, rotors and tires 3 months ago, new coil packs, etc, etc, etc...
This was the kind of guy that when something went wrong, he didn't wait to fix it.

I could tell you exactly what I paid, but I won't. I'd rather have that in my back pocket should I ever choose to resell it =o) but I will post some more pics soon!

      141K?
That's a seriously well kept R (shoot, ANY car with those miles should look that good)!

Brilliant with 141k; unbelievable that such a deal came your way. Very nice catch, here's to hoping you care for it just as much!

So! What about some tasteful upgrades?? You know you want to...

Part of me wants to respect the age of the car, but I'm sure an exhaust upgrade and a tune will come.
Chip tuning/programming has been my existence for quite some time now, so I can't very well leave this car alone and not my other ones =o)

So what if I wanted to keep it simple and just do a flash tune? Possibly also an exhaust?
Who does the best flash tune for the $$$?

I come from the tuning world, but I'm not up to speed on Volvo.
I was a dynotuner at Superchips Inc in the past and I'm currently a marketing arm for HP Tuners, but their tuning software covers Ford, GM and Dodge only.
For Audi/VW, I always trusted APR. Who should I use for the Volvo?

      Thanks,

      Jim

Do they push the limit of boost and timing or something?
      Who is good?

I'd prefer a flash where I don't have to sent out my ECU.

With out getting into what has been a huge debate here, ARD has done some tunes that several different customers have called questionable.

IPD tune is a solid off the shelf tune and I used to have it before going with a custom tune for the aftermarket turbo I installed. If you want something custom tailored for your car, give Hilton or JZW a call. If you just want a "shelf" tune, I would recommend IPD.

Have to agree with you, a car that good with those miles should be kept stock. Worth more in the long run, trying to find an unmodified R is gonna get harder and harder. Coming from the UK we don't have the roads to open these cars right up.

Great looking car, good luck which ever way you decide to go.
