Some in the forecast this week, nothing major. Still holding off mounting my winters, enjoying the smoothness of touring tires too much.

Stepped it up this year and went with 70's which should be a little taller.
Couldn't pass up the deal, brand new second-hand for 300 and I sold off my old set for 75 to cover the cost of mounting.

Just feel safer with a dedicated winter tire when the white stuff starts flying.

Might try some A/T tires on my other wheels in the spring, the touring tires are wearing on the outside on all 4 corners because of too much positive camber after the lift, which I might only fix in the front and just rotate more frequently.

Also I will not be using 15mm spacers again, last year I could not get them to stay tight and it would fling mud all over the side of the car.

Cooper M/S are some good tires and I feel the tread pattern is on par with most winter rated ATs.

I had a set of cooper's last year (2nd hand) and kept fighting a slow leak, the tire shop ripped a sidewall trying to remount them, so I got a set of 4 new Firestones, I honestly felt like the cooper's were a little better, but can't complain I suppose.

Southern Wisconsin got some snow so the winter set went on just in time

It's snowed like 4 times at my house already. Didn't get above 20F/-7C for almost 3 days straight last week. Didn't get any pictures of the V playing with its old A/S tires though, whoops.

First year running the V in cold winter conditions.
Just wondering if anyone has added a block heater to their car?
If so, how much (ball park) to get it installed at a shop?

Anyone not added one and find the car fires up fine, just fine?

Any other shares would be greatly appreciated.

      thanks,

You may find this thread interesting.

If winter lows are below -20C for a good stretch of the season then I'd install one, otherwise the vehicle will have no problems with a few colder than average days.

I've never had an issue with my '01 NA V70 in winter, always fired right up on the first crank (this is the first winter in 8.5 years of ownership that it is garaged). Though it was fairly unusual for the temp to be below 0F/-18C, I have started it up cold in -10F/-23C temps a handful of times without trouble. Like Antherzoll said, a few cold bits here and there should not be an issue, but get it installed if it is very cold for long stretches.

I started with an S60 so I still have a softspot for them. I've seen your car before, it's the one with the rad painted gauge cluster.

put the wheels on late last week and took a few shots today

How loud are the Firestone Winter Force 2's? I have the original tread style and they are crazy loud above 50.

I put a set of Vredestein Quatrac 5's on my XC70 about a year ago and have no motivation for buying a dedicated winter tires in New England "winter". They are a tad louder in summer than the most of plastic "eco" tires, but have awesome year-round grip. The car had General Altimax Artic previously, I don't miss them. Can't see why I need winter tires here, unless conditions would suddenly require studs.

The other Volvo in family - XC60 - got recently Quatrac Pro's. Wife noticed immediately that they are more stable in all conditions, much more quiet and absorb road imperfections more readily than the stock Michelin tires. My hopes are they wear down more quickly, like in 2-3 years, and can be replaced with a fresh set. I know, that sounds absurd, but I like tires to be new, quiet, grippy and safe. Unsafe sh*tty tires cost my XC70 a chassis swap.

Sadly, no accumulations yet in the Windy City, so no photos of the wagon playing.

Coldest start so far this winter...

I hope we get some decent snow this year.

Seems every year that I own a 4WD vehicle, we NEVER get snow. But, unlike my previous Jeep and Explorer, I'm not dumping this one because it's killing me on gas lol

It was deep up at Stevens Pass in WA yesterday (great powder skiing). Car drove out of the spot just fine with xice3 tires but wsdot had chains required so my friend and I quickly threw on some autosocks. I’ve been loving the extra power of the T5m over the na V70 I used to have.

For some reason this reminded me of the "Luxury Should Be Lived In" ad campaign for Infiniti. In their ads, the people are doing fairly ordinary things like hauling plants from the big box store and surfing. These photos truly show how "Luxury Should Be Lived In." Bravo!

      It's all gone now.

I was driving for a little while on Long Island. Car performed well. Got a little spirited and car remained stable and predictable even while sliding around.

I would like a decent snow storm to test the XC out for real....but not right now. I have to drive my Impala out to PA on Monday for some PDR and I need the roads clear because I don't drive in the salt. I hope it rains more tonight because the city spread 8 billion tons of salt for snow that was literally on the ground for 2 hours.

There wasn't a single salt spreader on the road on LI. And they got more snow.
