Interesting solution. Does the odor from the denatured alcohol kill them or are they somehow attracted to the paper and odor and then the alcohol kills them? Just trying to understand. We typically look for ticks and then just pick them off our clothes if we find them though you are in Lyme Disease country where you are so I would imagine some extra precaution is necessary.

I worked at a Cub Scout camp two years ago, and I got lyme disease from a deer tick while I was there. It was the ONLY time I didn't check myself after a long day of chasing after 8 year-olds.

Believe me when I say, the cheapest, easiest, and best thing to do with these ticks is to isolate them and light them on fire.

It's the vapors. It damages their nervous system. The one that we killed in our test container was clearly losing control of its legs as time went by until finally failing entirely.

I would do that if I didn't mind lighting my car on fire.

Hey I'm just glad this didn't happen a couple weeks ago when the '99 was out of service with the broken exhaust. Then we would have had 100% of the fleet simultaneously out of service. It was insane enough then that the 850R went from 4th to 1st on the depth chart over the course of about 72 hours....

Sad to not be able to pretend I'm from the coolest state anymore, but I don't want it registered in the wrong state anymore now that it looks like I will actually be driving it a bit more. Did all of 105 miles on the Vermont registration over 7 months lol. I'll be doing about triple that in it on Monday.
Coolest state? Connecticut is the coolest state...

LOL. I think CT is better than MA in a lot of ways but Boston is a pretty cool city to go up against. However, Vermont being the only state without a McD's in it's state capital scores it a ton of points on the cool scale imo.

So we took the 850R out for about about a 150 mile drive yesterday to finally use up the rest of the nearly two year old gas that came with the car. Rather disappointingly, fresh gas did not help the fuel economy at all - got 24 mpg on the trip computer the entire time. Not so great. Also got some real world data to back up my suspicions that the ControlContacts are not that good compared to the A/S PZeros on the T-5R. Had to make a quick left turn onto a very busy road and it was understeer city. Similar turns in the T-5R have been completely uneventful. Anyone know any good places on the south shore where I could run some comparison tests and maybe set up an autocross course to get some real data? Also have been getting a low pitched rumble from something at highway speeds. Not ruling out the tires since they are so loud but given that everything on the front subframe came out of the wrecked R with about 200k of deferred maintenance, it could be just about anything.

Have you checked the rear sway bar? Mine came completely sheared at the L mount and it handled like s***

Low pitched rumble could also be a wheel bearing.

Regarding mileage, have you done stage 0 on this car?

      Any boost issues?

Yep, wheel bearing certainly is a possibility. If that's it and it becomes too problematic, it likely won't be fixed unless there is some pressing need for this car; I'll just pull it out of service until the M66/RN swap is ready to go.

Nope, and not going to. Same plan as above.

Yeah, only getting about 1/3 of the way into the white. Also not fixing unless it's simple and free.

Also read the codes this morning and got P0326 and P0331. Going to erase them just for kicks since there is fresh gas in there now but I'm definitely not going to be replacing knock sensors on this setup, either.

So I've had this car a year and a half, and I FINALLY got out and did a photo shoot with it today! Took some doing to drive around all the puddles so I didn't get it dirty lol.

All shots with my Nikon D700.

Those wheel weights are very distracting... you'd think they'd have anthracite colored ones... or use stick ons.

Eggcrate is on the list! Gonna do it up the same way Greg did on his red/tan R.

Yeah I hate those weights too. Discount tire FTL. My local guy uses the stick on ones . Luckily the Discount Tire special DWS knock offs suck, too, so I'll have a great excuse to do something about them. Getting PSS for the summer assuming I have my M66/RN swap done (it better be done) and then we'll see what I do for next fall/winter. Hopefully it won't be these things again unless my delusions of grandeur of drowning in money after I graduate truly do turn out to be delusions. The hope is for another set of PZero A/S+ for this car and then not drive it in the snow.

Yes I know. Thanks! Aimed at PO who was a total moron and seized the engine, was solidly on the path to destroying the interior (took about a year to air out the third hand smoke smell), and picked shiit tires and a shiity installation shop all in 7k miles, right?

I don't think I ever put up the pics of what it looked like when it arrived here; I need to do that.....hold on guys, brace yourselves for the horror......

My R looks and smells the same as when I bought it... clean. The 00R saw children inside of it the horror... the horror I think my sister was the first person to sit in the back of my R.

      Here it is.........

Showing up on the truck (the truck driver was cool, he had a modified P80 XC so he was pretty excited to be delivering an R to a good home)

It was covered in pollen. I bet there is still pollen in some of the panel gaps although most of it is gone now.

      IMG_6898

I'd already washed the hood here, but look at the roof it's like the guy never washed it.

      IMG_6900

And now for the interior. I honestly thought I was going to swap in my tan interior into this car based on the pictures I saw of it before I bought it.

Note the craptastic Kenwood speaker installed in the door. Reinstalling the original speakers was the first thing I did after cleaning it. Whoever put in those Kenwood door speakers totally removed the dash tweeters. It sounded awful. Stock speakers FTW.

It's kinda hard to see but there was cigarette ash everywhere. Most visible in the area around the shifter.

Thanks for the parts????? I mailed that license plate frame back to him along with his W2 lmao

So, yeah, if he'd had enough time, he would have pretty well destroyed this car. I wish I could find his Google+ page now.........he had a whole album up there of this absolutely 100% trashed out mk2 Supra that he also owns/owned. His bio on YouTube tells you pretty much all you need to know:

No not at all. We have all been around here enough to hate on the annoying little things wrong with each other's cars and not take it personally.

Should I take the rest of the tint off?
Curious to hear what you guys think. I'm on the fence about whether I should keep it or ditch it. Does it look stupid with tint on the back windows and none on the front?

      DSC_7931

Speaking of taking off the tint, I finally took it off of the passenger window today so I can go pass safety inspection now. It was 30% and the minimum for the front windows is 35% in MA. Hopefully I can take it out tomorrow to do that while the roads are clean. I think I might ask them to put the meter on the back just so I know what it is.

Got a nice collection of stuff waiting to go on this car if I can get the T-5R back in service soon. Those are my summer mats. Yeah I have summer and winter mats even though this car doesn't see salt.

Leave it on the back. Only the windshield and front windows should be untinted. Gets rid of the fishbowl

All or nothing at all. Looks weird otherwise. Of course you can't do the windshield but I am going to investigate cost of a ceramic not too dark tint. Otherwise, I leave it fishbowl.

Tint looks crap with tan interior anyway imo. I think it defeats the whole vibe of an otherwise wonderfully light and airy interior so I'd absolutely leave it fishbowl if I had tan interior. There was a red/tan 855R in VA (the one with silver Volans, the same silver Volans that showed up in Ohio in the wheel thread a few months back) that sold on here for $5k about the time mine got wrecked and it had tinted windows.......I wasn't feeling that at all.

Our 06XC has a tan interior and factory tint. Makes a huge difference in the summer. And it looks good.

I will say I was impressed with how cool that car seemed to stay in the summer, although I was in it very little given that the T-5R was still in service at the time. I was worried being it's the first Volvo with dark interior that we've had in the household.

Red/tan with tint I think is somehow worse than a lot of other colors with tan interior and tint, maybe because it's such a bold color combo in the first place. Silver you can get away with just about anything since it's such a neutral color. Heck, look at McShake with his orange wheels; I never thought I'd like orange wheels on anything but I think they look absolutely killer on his silver D5. I really don't think that would work out on a lot of colors, though.

A very light tint, but enough to keep heat out. I'm not sure what the s60 has but p/o did it, and it's nice. I'll have to try and capture a pic. HUGE difference in that car.

Tint serves practical purposes. It keeps the car cool in the sun and prevents people from glancing in. All my wagons are rear tint only, like yours. My Mazda has full tint though.

I say keep it. I don't think it looks bad having untinted front. You could also throw a legal tint on the front.

Oh and if you're an nose-picker at lights, tint makes a huge difference!

I'll be doing a 50% tint in the future on the pewter because with no AC it's brutal in the summer.

Maybe 50%? That looks pretty reasonable. I could see doing something like that on the front windows in the R if I decide I don't like it the way it looks now.

I've been thinking some darker tint in the line of sight to the side mirrors might be nice, too. With everyone driving around in SUVs with projectors these days those mirrors are really getting annoying. Or maybe I could tint the mirrors?
Heck, sometimes I want an SUV for driving at night just so I can sit above the cutoff of those ridiculously high lights. Hmmmmmmm......this thought process is making me want this lol http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/de...l?id=237555375
