      Once I found my ship name, I Googled it, and found the ship's owner's site. Mine just happened to be ACL (they appear to own about 1/2 dozen ships). I went to their site and found the tracking tool that they use (which provides a good amount of detail) which shows all their ships. Then I just zoom in on mine. Otherwise, my ship has not sent a weather update to sailwx for over 8 days. I haven't been able to actually track my cargo with VIN number on the ACL site, but I'm just watching the ship's progress, which seems fairly real time.

      Jay, what is the current wind speed and wave height?

      Cool, but how to know a given ship is an ACL vessel? You just look at the map to see if yours is shown? Also, it looks like their tracking system needs an internal shipment number to see the detail (the W-W site is able to use the VIN). How did you get this?

      If we can write it up, let's add it to the description.

      Tom.

      If you go to WW's website, and it shows you that the ship name is "ATLANTIC CARTIER/COMPANION/COMPASS/CONCERT/CONVEYOR", then that is an indication that the car is being shipped through ACL. Then, you go to the ACL website and you track it accordingly.

      And you can zoom in so close on the ACL site you can see the channel marker indications. Then......when it's in port you can go to google maps and zoom in on the satellite view and see the actual docking berth. Usually there is some ship there or nearby that you can actually see cargo (if not cars) on. Oh the boring days after my OSD trip when all I could do was just go about my business for 6 weeks waiting for my car.

      I think the WW website was one of the first we went to, when we returned in 2006. 2007, of course, was a different case altogether but eventually we were checking more often than daily.

      Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (GrecianVolvo)

      Here's some helpful information for tracking your Volvo delivery to countries other than the United States and Canada. Mainly Middle East and Far East regions on the following vessels.

      ASIAN SUN, ASIAN KING, ASIAN PARADE, ASIAN CHORUS, TORRENS and MORNING COMPOSER (All currently on lease from WWL to EUKOR).

      http://www.eurogate.de (Final port arrival schedule if loading in Bremerhaven)

      http://www.nmtshipping.com (RoRo Frieght forwarder for EUKOR) for schedule of vessels listed above but not all inclusive so you may have to go to eurogate or someother website link and try to find your arrival port schedule there.

      http://www.eukor.com (Tracking your shipment via last six of your VIN once loaded on the vessel). Registration is free here but you won't find much if any helpful info here until your car is loaded.

      If you need position updates everyday or many time per day as I do, then just search for AIS data on your ship name via google. My car still hasn't shipped yet but should on the 9th of April so I'll update on what EUKOR tracking provides then.

      Good Luck and Enjoy!!

      Volvo Cars blogger Dan Johnston has an entry with some interesting information on the shipping and delivery process, with history and some detail on what happens after the cars come off the ship.

      Check it out at From There to Here: Importing Volvos

      There's also an article in this month's (May 2009) VCOA Rolling magazine.

      I found out my XC60 was "DISCHARGED" in Baltimore yesterday. Does anyone know off-hand how long it takes before it's on the road? It's headed for Kline Volvo in Maplewood, MN. I hope it doesn't take too long.

      I just had a quick question regarding the delivery of my XC60 and would appreciate a response. Volvo just sent me a letter that said my car will arrive at the dealer on Sept 7. However, thanks to these forums, I tracked my vehicle and the Atlantic Cartier which the XC60 is on, is scheduled to arrive in port on Aug 18. I realize there is customs and delivery and such, but the dealer is less than 30 min away from the port here in New Jersey. Would it really take 3 weeks from port to dealer, even if the dealer is this close, or the estimated date Volvo sent me not accurate? I am only a bit concerned because we were planning a labor day weekend trip in our new XC60 which might not be possible now. Thanks for any input!

      It is possible. All depends on how soon a FULL truck can leave port.

      Doubtful unless something is wrong (damage, delay at U.S. Customs, software upgrades, etc.). I am willing to bet that your car will arrive at your dealer by no later than August 27th.

      Thanks for the quick replies. I forgot to mention that I ordered a couple exterior accessories (rear skid plate, side scuff plates) over at FDC. Are these installed at port or while in Gothenburg? I guess this could affect how long it takes to get my XC60 if they're installed here. The anticipation is killing me!!

      I've been tracking my XC60 for a couple of weeks now, thanks to the information in this thread. It was "DISCHARGED" in Baltimore 8 days ago. Is it possible it's on a truck on it's way to Minnesota? Or will it show the "DELIVERED FROM" status before it leaves port?

      I'm sure the folks reading this can understand my anticipation. I got to drive it for two weeks in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, and fell in love with it. The wait is killing me.

      Re: (LarzStarz)

      IIRC, once it shows "Discharged" off the ship, that's it. That's the last the shipping company has to do with your car.

      From there, you should be talking with your OSD rep. But if he cannot give you the info, there is the name of the customs broker on your paperwork and you can contact them. But use it as a last resort.

      Sometimes the car will go thru customs in no time at all, and sometimes it can be a week or more. Your dealer has no control over that.

      Then it's loaded on a truck for ground transport, and as others have said, that truck needs to be full. So there could be a few more days delay.

      This is the hardest part of doing an OSD, but when you get your car home, it will be like falling in all over again.

      For a side note, did you notice the Overseas Delivery Forum?? We all love to here of others adventures and see pictures.

      Re: (momscar)

      Thanks for the info, momscar. I'll check with my contact at the local dealer to see if she can figure out anything.

      I've been lurking in the forums for a while, and recently decided to jump in. Our trip this year was our second OSD experience, the first being to get my wife's S40. When I get a little more free time, I'll definitely post pictures from both over at the OSD forum.

      If the goal of the OSD program is to "conquer" a customer for life, I think they definitely have succeeded in doing that with us.

      Ok guys, my dealer is a bit inexperienced i guess in the whole OSD thing (my fault for picking them and not the OSD experts on this forum) but anyway they are not too sure of how the delivery to the dealer works and the paperwork involved. I just wanted some help to clarify a couple things. The customs broker (im actually not quite sure who that is, is there a number i could call?) has to send me a declaration form of some type to my home and that must be filled out before i can pick up the vehicle, correct? also the term "delivered from" while on the tracking website means my car has left the port and is in all likeliness on a car carrier? Finally, the dealer should have the exact (or pretty close to) the date of arrival - not just the one VCNA gave me? I'm so excited, i cant help to ask these questions as i have absolutely no patience in waiting for the xc60 i ordered. The ship arrives tomorrow morning in NJ on the atlantic cartier. Thanks for helping out a 1st time OSD customer!

      My delivery got two updates from the W&W tracker today: "CUSTOMS RELEASE" at time 00:00:00, and "LINER RELEASE" at "09:37:34". Do you think "DELIVERED FROM" would come soon?

      BTW, taking 12 days to clear customs? GRRRRR

      Sorry to hear about your delays.....I am still waiting for my XC70 and I learned that my vehicle sat at customs for 5 weeks or so. Very frustrating!

      If you call Volvo OSD office they might be able to track it down for you in more detail. Also, with your paperwork you should have the name of the customs broker with their phone number. That is how I learned about when they processed it. They told me it was going to be put on a trailer for Tacoma....where it might still sit waiting for a ship to Alaska.

      Originally Volvo told me the car would be here on or about July 27th. If I am lucky I will get it next week.

      Talked to my OSD specialist at the dealer today, and she told me she received a call from the shipping company that it was put on a truck 4 days ago, the same day it was released from customs. It's almost party time!

      I'm not sure that is correct. The Ghent plant is right on port. This link shows a container ship right next to the plant:

      http://maps.google.com/maps?ll...hl=en

      Those cars in Zeebrugge could be from inland makers like Audi. Seems silly that Volvo would cart cars there when they have a port right next to their plant.

      Well, that's good to hear. Might help my XC60 get here more quickly !

      And holy crap, they have a capacity of 1,200 cars per day in Gent. I had no idea that any car plant could crank out that many. I went on a tour of a Ford plant in Detroit when I was about 10 yrs. old, and it seemed like they were just creeping along the assembly line.

      Tom,

      Just wanted to say thanks again... I used the information you posted to track the shipment of our former Volvo (XC90 T6) when we left and shipped it from Germany to Baltimore in 2005... Now, I'm back and using it once again to track our XC60 T6, that should be arriving in Baltimore on 05 Oct aboard the Topeka...

      While looking for the vessel's position, I found this site with information about the Topeka, ships' locations and other stuff...

      Thanks, once again

      Tom and all,

      Thanks for all the updates and info on following the shipment! The WW site shows the following update for our XC60:

      LINER RELEASE BALTIMORE, MD 07-10-2009 08:17:01
      CUSTOMS RELEASE BALTIMORE, MD 07-10-2009 00:00:00

      It looks like it's almost here, and since we're in Northern Virginia and not to far from the port, the call from the dealer should be soon

      Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (sergjut14)

      Serg,

      This is a good site. I was able to find the ship that my XC60 is riding and it was not too far from Antwerp. It has to make a stop in the UK before heading to the US and is supposed to arrive in early November.

      Hope it stays on schedule.

      John

      John,

      On this site (http://www.marinetraffic.com) you can search using different variables and it was helpful, but when the ship was at high sea, nothing was reported, so I used the different links provided and updated by Tom and it kept me busy...

      Mostly I used the Wilhelm Wallenius auto tracking link on SwedeSpeed and did some searches of my own, but why fix it when it's not broken - Tom has done a great job on his post and I recommend it! Bottom line, the wait might be long, but I think is well worth it!!!
      Enjoy

      PS I just checked the WWL site and the latest update indicated that our XC60 went through Customs and Liner Release and Discharged at the Port of Baltimore today

      At the WW site, there are four fields that can be filled out:

      * Booking Number
      * Bill of Lading Number
      * Cargo ID
      * Customer Reference Number

      Any idea which one to enter the VIN into? A bit premature for me, because the VIN was just issued a week ago, so I'm sure it's not even near a ship yet...

      Enter the VIN under the Cargo ID and that will give you another page with the Bill of Lading Number, Booking Number, Vessel Name, Voyage Number, Port of Load & ETD (DD-MM-YYYY), Port of Discharge & ETA (DD-MM-YYYY), Port of Receipt and Port of Final Destination...

      Below that the Status, Status Location, Date (DD-MM-YYYY HH:MM:SS) and Status Quantity
