So we're getting new rear calipers for this car. What's the difference between the silver and the black Cardone remans?

      painted vs non painted.

get the non painted ones and paint them yourself.....highly recommend fcp because these do not last at all

Scored this CD changer out of the 850 sedan we encountered on our JY run yesterday. How do we make it go? We tried hooking it up to the 816 that we have in the shop and it is definitely getting power but still reading EEEE. Ideas?

People who care about sound quality and/or don't have smartphones.....my dad even hates using his flip phone and not because he's techno challenged or anything like that, he just doesn't want a phone following him everywhere lol

I do too. But to me there's not much of a difference from phone to the cd for sound. For real sound quality I play vinyl on my McIntosh system at home . I put in Polk audio speakers and dynamat in my wagon and gfs RAV4 and they sound pretty good. CDs are a hassle though lol. And phones do sound like garbage. Convenience takes over for me though haha.

If I had a ton of money I would do a sub and replace my speakers. Polk makes ones for fitting in volvo? Originally a Maryland company, baby! I wanted a set of towers back in the day. They sounded so amazing!

Yeah they make 6.5 inch speakers. Universal application. Have to modify the mounting brackets. I did mine super clean using the original connectors and stuff. I only use Polk audio speakers for home and the cAr. Not that I'm not open to other speakers and I know there's other companies out there But Polk stuff is very very good quality and sounds great. In my house I have a Polk 12 inch sub and LSi speakers and another 2 either tsi or rti and it sounds awesome. Vintage tube McIntosh amps help too. But throwing some speakers in the car doesn't cost that much money. Couple hundred bucks maybe tops. Look on crutchfield.

The woofer will change your life ZZZZZZZ... You just have to be patient... It took me a year and a half to find one for a swallow-able price (just like it has now taken me 2 years to find the special special edition of the Interstellar soundtrack...). A GROM is nice but it has some artifacts at high frequencies either from being iffy or my install job being meh. I keep the Interstellar soundtrack on CD and its just amazing. I still need to Dynamat the car though.

Around 8:20 it gets oh so amazing.

Have never owned Polk but love them. I've been a Bose guy for a while. I have the little cubes and a sub in the living room and it is astounding how much they can generate. We also have a mini soundlink and that thing is sick. So tiny but the sound is so rich. Anyone want to help me do a speaker replace this summer? Free beer and pizza!

300 is a big assed pill to swallow. Interstellar was by far the loudest f*cking movie I have ever been in. If I played that in my car right now, I'd kill a speaker for sure. One is already complaining quite a bit...

If you play your cards right you can much better... I paid 240 shipped. However, the 01-04 woofer is different (and more common) than the 05-07 woofer. My headliner vibrates when the bass hits LOL. Love it so much.

Would the 01-04 work with my car? Sorry for thread hijack, Jared. I still haven't any clue if I have the harness but know where to get a bracket since that guy can has a thread and can make them.

No. The amp is different or something because an 01-04 sub in an 05-07 car connects but doesn't work. Probably some amp difference because of the HU803 vs HU850...
      BTW your car is prewired...

Glad I haven't pulled the trigger then, prematurely. I hadn't known that 05+ were different. I would have been really bummed. Thanks for pre wired note. Back to jared's dad's na!

Everyone has a preference, I mean it's not like you're a FLAC purist or collecting and outrageous amount of vinyl records like some people I know.

My dad's honestly a bit of a luddite, but he's trying to join the 21st century. He's got a funny little flip phone. My sister bought him an iPad for Christmas and he gets a lot of enjoyment out of surfing the web now.

Not using CDs is not convenient when you don't have a phone!

I also disagree about the Grom being more convenient even if you do have a phone, though (at least from my experience); I hate fµcking around with my phone/grom when I'm driving. Its fine if it takes me a minute or two to get that thing going when I'm a passenger but I hate having to sit there and get it all set up for like two minutes (on a good day for the Grom) before I can go. The 901 changer isn't reliable (except for David Grisman's new album, it will always play that when all other CDs fail ) so the only thing that just works is the 6 disc changer in the back. Gotta love the '90s lol Maybe my problems wouldn't be so bad if I stopped being a cheapskate and bought a different phone didn't cost less new than my Grom?
Either way, there's nothing like stuff that JUST WORKS.

And yes I love listening to vinyl on our all analog system hooked up to like 50 lb Sansui speakers in our living room.

I keep wondering if I should throw some speakers in the R. I guess I can actually do it now that I have a 901 for it and hopefully can EQ them to something reasonable since the stock curves are definitely wrong for aftermarket speakers. The are certain recordings I would like to have a bit better treble response on, although the center speaker helps a LOT with that and I now have a second one lying around if I can ever bring myself to cut a hole in the mint dash pad in that car.

Oh yeah, new albums on vinyl. Nothing like going to a show and coming home with an LP .

SB and I have some ideas... There's a low profile sub we're thinking of that will go where it does in a P2 except bolted to the cover for the spare... About the same wattage too, P2 owners have swapped in when their woofers have died.

^^sweet. Keep me posted guys. Small enough that I could still fit in a full size 215 spare? Guessing not but this would probably be cool enough to get me to ditch that concept.

Do tell. Would rather build one new for less potentially, rather than spend for ten year old and hammered.

I had one mounted on the driver's side behind the wheel well against the side wall. It was one of the powered subs made to fit under a seat. Very small profile, but filled in the sound nicely. It was also pretty rugged. Was made by Sound Ordnance and bought at Crutchfield. Open box, $100.

Adding useful features to the useful car

Got in some practice with light painting too (was feeling inspired to try this after all the light painting at Carlisle).

My dad found a T5 that he is seriously considering buying. Listening to offers on this car in case that happens since, unfortunately, this car probably has to go if he does buy it. Cargo cover would not be included but all the other upgrades would be negotiable depending on the offer.

Well this happened last week. I guess my dad must have resigned himself to the fate of having two cars.

Yep, new calipers all around! Gonna be nice to have 4 wheel brakes on this car again. Already got new pads and rear discs in stock, going to reuse the front discs from the T-5R since this car is staying 280 for the moment, probably until the Defenders wear out at this point. With its new position in the fleet since adding the T5 SE, this car rarely makes it over 50 mph and never sees any fun roads, so having awesome tires and brakes isn't really a priority for now.

Then this showed up. Yes, that is a factory Tropic Green wing in the middle. Do we have enough wings waiting for installation (and, in the case of the white and silver ones, paint) yet?

Destroyed the bumper brackets while hauling the boat yesterday. That's with about 10 lbs of force. Guess we need some new ones.....if we care. Lol.

Got some metal on metal action on the right rear brakes! I managed to brake it loose while I was dailying this car Nov-Dec, but, thanks to how rusty the rotor was to begin with and then getting even rustier while it was being driven

Yeah, we're not putting new pads in that. Time to finally put those new calipers on......except it's not looking good for the brake line coming out and nobody around here sells monel brake lines. Good thing I bought that white R lol.

Yeah, we've had rebuilt calipers for all 4 corners in stock for a few months now. Just been too busy playing with the fun cars to do anything with this one.

The old brake line decided to come loose!

That's what's left of those pads lol

      [url=https://flic.kr/p/JyXMGc]

New parts! Hopefully the rest of the calipers will wait to blow up until after it is warmer.
