      Paulís Red 1998 V70 T5M

Finally got help with this photo thing. I hope you enjoy these. I bought this wagon three years ago and fixed everything myself. I've always wanted one since the T5-R estate arrived, but I had to find an original 5-speed example so went with the V body design which I like better frankly. I don't have the oem airbox. Didn't come with one. I'm the third owner. It was owned briefly for a year by the first owner's son who decided to cut the springs and lose the airbox. But I need to locate one without SAS. I refinished the Propus wheels after having them straightened and the curb rashes removed. I have two extra which is nice. These are the 17x7.5 examples. The wagon has really grown on me. I enjoy it. Other than the wheels, an ARD Green tune, an exhaust, and IPD blue springs, it's bone stock. I've touched just about everything on this car. Everything works as advertised.

Very nice looking car, and red is a great color. The wheels look great!

If you want a stock airbox without SAS, you can get one out of an 850 turbo, 96 or earlier. Or, just get an IPD intake kit and do the intake mod right.

I'd recommend a snabb intake pipe and a stock air box since the design is very good for both.

IPD sway bars, IPD air intake are probably next.

I'll rebuild the 16T soon, not leaking but it's surely due.

I plan on rewiring the stock headlight internals since they're dim. Are the IPD aftermarket headlights worth it?

Eh, get Ecode glass for the stock reflectors. It improves the beam pattern and gets 20% more light down road. Paired with high power bulbs you'll have excellent night vision.

Skip the cone air intake, stock airbox draws in cooler air and uses a larger filter (the oem paper is gigantic when you unfold it compared to a k&n or cone filter).

A strut tower brace/bar makes a big difference with torque steer.

One word of caution if you intend to replace your headlight glass, DO NOT try and clean or touch the reflective surface, you will rune it, ask me how I know.

+1 on the E-code glass. Swapped'em years ago and haven't looked back.
Jewels would be nice, but this fix is a lot less expensive. SilverStar Ultras
round out the upgrade at my house.

A nice cosmetic touch is getting some of the 2003-2004 C70 jewel light turn signals
dropped in there while you have everything apart. ( Go true OEM, not aftermarket ).
A much cleaner look, even with the older fluted headlight glass.

Any tips on replacing the airbag clockspring for this '98? I've got a JY replacement. Turn signal does not cancel is my symptom.

Also, what's the best bang to improve the stock manual shifting's feel? Do I need the delrin shifter cable bushings as well as the short shift plate and its cable bushings? All three parts from Snabb?

Shifter bushings and poly torque mounts/new hydraulic motor mounts.

Because its cable it'll never be as crisp as a linkage shifter but all of the above make it way better. I chased tightening the shifts for a year and it was the hydraulic motor mounts in the end that made it the best. The shifter bushings themselves do make a nice improvement.

The short shift plate is useful if you feel like the shift throws are too long. But if you feel the shifts are not tight enough, then I'd get the cable bushings. Still too sloppy, then get upper and lower torque mounts. OEM new is better than most of what's on the road, or if you don't mind a rougher idle for a 5-10 thousand miles while the poly bushings are broken in, get the poly torque mounts.

If shifts are still to sloppy after that, then I'd replace the motor mounts with OEM ones. It's a big job (you'll need an engine support bar), and pretty expensive (OEM mounts aren't cheap), so I'd save that one for last. If you do the motor mounts, it's also a great time to do the subframe bushings.

So you guys are referring to the shifter bushings at the transmission, right? I just want to tighten up some of the play in the shifter and shorten the throws.

Ive got new IPD upper engine mounts (both), IPD trans mount, IPD subframe bushing inserts, and oem front engine mount. I love the combination. Zero slop felt at the motor and razor smooth idle to be honest. The other engine mounts, yes, I'll consider replacing later...the left and right mounts. But not at the moment I don't feel.

To be clear, Snabb offers three products. Which bushings are you guys referring to? The second has the short shift plate and transmission side of the cable bushings. The first link I believe is for the other end under the center console?

No. E-code reflectors are not the same. You can put e-code lenses on your DOT reflectors and I'm sure it will be better than the full DOT setup, but you'll be making a beam pattern that isn't legal anywhere and probably isn't as good as a complete e-code setup. I just got a full set of E-code lights (headlights and corners) for my T-5R from Germany for Ä200 shipped so it's not that expensive to do this right (probably would have been like Ä130 if I hadn't gotten the corner lights).

I would recommend getting the ones for under the console, but some of us had issues with the short shift plate above the gearbox. It has a tendency to bind although it will shorten the throw travel.

I'll look at that full replacement option Jared.

I'll start with the shifter side bushings Mitch thank you.

JY trip this morning did not yield a turn signal stalk any better than mine...my non-canceling turn signal problem nearly has me stumped.

But I did pickup an undamaged upper steering column shroud.
