Whirlwind trip in the VR today. Only used about a 1/3 tank from home down to DC to drop one kid and then up to Baltimore to drop the other and then back home. Good deal. Played a bit to try and flex on an rx suv that was annoying and that thing had a LOT of rolling power. He was crazy so I let him go. Not worth getting peeled up off the pavement. He had a death wish...

But later when nobody was in the car I had an annoying older maxima behind me that wouldnít go away. No place for him to go around me so i picked up my pace and kept climbing. THAT was easy to walk away from. Surprised him and kept walking. He clearly had nothing left but was trying, so I came back down to speed, moved over and let him scamper past. Treat the weegan with respect in the future, man.

      These are highway comfort cruisers.

Quick Google search says the latest generation has around 300 hp. Maybe F-Sport? Or just somebody that had less to lose than you.

My son drove the XC Saturday afternoon to DC and back Sunday morning. Today it's out of gas, the heated seat was on high (it was 65 degrees) and the A/C was set to 60, the mileage average is back down to 22.7... *sigh*
Highway, so not sure where else they went, but a quarter tank is gone. LOL

Good gas mileage is for grandmas. Your son probably drives it like he stole it when your not in the car.

LOL. That's probably true. Apparently he put ten bucks in gas in it. STILL was empty.
I'm the grandma that has to foot the bill when things wear out or break, so that's most of the reason I drive the way I do.

Met up with Tabormeister this morning and he was in his 07 VR. He's gotten his nav to work again, and loaned me his cleaning disc. Maybe mine will come back to life after a cycle of cleaning.
I was in the XC and forgot that the pre-facelift cars have a different dash. Anyone have a good line on a prefacelift HU-803? I want premium sound (but yes, will miss some of the extra speakers in the front door cards).
It's geeky, but seeing a VR back in the day... and now, with how they're disappearing is so exciting. Makes my spidey sense tingle.

Twice now with as much as I've been driving the v70XC, someone has asked, "Did you paint your red car silver?"
Apparently my car really is incredibly invisible, if the average Joe thinks it's the same car as an XC.

Opened the hood to show how clean and stock my car is to the SR owner only to discover something has decided, "Hey - here's a warm/dry place to be since nobody ever moves this thing."
I sprayed it with simple green solution (50/50) but am planning on getting something to put in there to dissuade anything from moving back in after I clean it off this weekend.
Scottish says peppermint oil and cotton balls, which I may try, but I'd be worried about finishes and taking it out every time I drive. Anybody have ideas that are non-marring on finish and can be there perpetually?

Dryer sheets. I leave them in the engine bay in my 3 cars that sit. Switch them out every once in a while when they donít smell as much. And when you pop the hood itís always fresh smelling. Just stuff them in there.

+1, when the Sonic hibernates, I use dryer sheets as well. That probably doesn't help not having to take them out when you use the car, but they never affect finishes or anything.

Thanks, all! Going to the store tonight to get some stuff for making chili anyway, and will snag a box of these.
Temps are supposed to drop and I want to have this nipped before the rain tomorrow.
I do NOT need wires and insulation all jacked up.

I have no idea how you get 23.3 mpg average. I use my car around town, but I'm pretty much at about 14.5 mpg average, and can get 18 mpg on a long highway trip. My car never got much better- did a long trip on the highway when the car was new and managed 22 mpg cruising at 55mph.

You may be thinking of the wrong foot. Hyper mileage is about staying off the gas whenever possible because any turbo car will throw full torque in all the upper gears even if itís super bogged

I guess I need a few more years behind the wheel I thought upper gears were a sort of overdrive for higher Econ?

But staying off the gas is hard sometimes. Thereís too many bmws around!

      Yup. Lol
I donít know, man. I just drive. I donít hammer down nasty but I do pass and use the turbo quite a bit. We have a lot of left lane Parkers and they all seem to be texting. The average speed sometimes blows up the mileage if I do 70 or more but suffers if Iím doing 50-60.

I drove an 06 XC yesterday and was appalled to find the average fuel economy at like 17mpg. I kinda gave up on worrying about fuel economy and even then I get 26-27 in everything pretty much all the time.

I think it's also because you're in a more rural area than me- I'm in suburban Philadelphia and drive into town a lot. But I've never seen that kind of mileage, ever, even when my friend was driving in VA at 55mph exactly, afraid of the state troopers.

What kind of tires are you running? I've always used some sort of performance tire, which I'm sure hurts the mileage- currently on BFG Comp T/A AS2.

I threw the second set of pegs on the XC because my son wanted the car to look sportier. I had a set of used bridgestone AS pole position. They were cobbled together from the best off the s60 and the vr and had even tread depth out of the eight. The other four were worn away. Both of those cars now have Nokian Zline AS. The bridgestones are hard and they last forever. The Nokians are smoother and softer but seem to be wearing very well. Iím impressed.
