Decided to powder coat my 20" 10-spoke wheels and mount on new Bridgestone Blizzaks in advance of the upcoming Midwest winter. I still need to tape off the Volvo emblem and paint the center caps to match the grey wheels. Thoughts?

I would get aftermarket center caps either chrome or matching color.
Painting those caps is a pain.

      Great color!
You can (repeatably) pop out the plastic center cap from the tire then (maybe not so repeatably) push out the snapfit Volvo logo (and everything else on the cap!) so nothing sensitive has to be masked. Just the cap itself is painted. Presumably the only thing to be worried about is to make sure the additional layer of paint added to the plastic cap allows the cap to still fit into the wheel center. See my next post (#670) for some pix as to how and why I learned this . . .

Would the OEM dark gray caps work?

Decided there just wasn't enough moose on the minivan so added a wheel center cap polydome moose sticker from Dave Barton's prancingmoose.com website onto existing center caps. It turns out new center caps are pricier than i'd like (>>$10 each, haha). Here's the process:
      1. Remove the wheel center cap. It's far easier if the wheel is off the car (and you can just pop it out from behind), as it was tough with the tire on the car as there's no access to the cap from behind, and using a trim tool from the front to pry out the cap proved difficult (probably by design - I was only successful 1 out of 4 tires).
      2. Remove the various snap-fits from behind by pushing out the various legs with a narrow screwdriver, starting with the 3 black ones. Then remove the 4 chrome ones.
      3. Clean the cap surface well with isopropyl alcohol.
      4. Use a hair dryer to heat the cap and polydome sticker separately. Then peel and stick, just using your 5 fingers equidistantly around the sticker to locate it above and concentric with the cap edges, then gently "drop" the sticker onto the just slightly bigger cap. Continue to blow dry the assembly and hand press the sticker for a few minutes. Viola, more moose!
Optional: Since the places where the snap-fit legs were are now empty, water and dirt can work it's way in there and potentially loosen the sticker over time. I'm thinking maybe some hot glue to fill the cavities (or something else?) might extend the life of these polydome stickers.

      Foldable moonroof mesh shade

Made some modifications to fit a foldable mesh shade between the OE glass roof and the OE retractable shade (more pictures here). Doesn't interfere with glass roof and retractable shade operation, and can be removed/reattached in seconds.

Cleaned my exhaust tips. While I was cleaning them I moved to the other side and swang my arm under the car unintentionally. Then the tailgate came closing down almost on my head. It would’ve been hilarious to watch.

It's a good thing that liftgates come with some form of force sensor so they stop or reverse direction when detecting a meaningful enough obstacle. I would think a person's head would register as meaningful enough.

Family wash day. The pollen needs to stop. You can’t really tell but you could see dust on each car minutes after it was washed and they’ll just get dustier for two weeks while we sit in the house.
