Best mod under $500/Best single mod

I know this is hard... BUT... If you could only do 1 mod, and you could only spend less than $500, what would it be? If you could only do 1 mod and money wasn't an issue, what would it be? I'm trying to convice the fiancee that the car NEEDS mods.

Someone asked this once before, although their cap was $1000 (better for you, maybe not for the g/f!). That thread is here -- should give you some ideas.

Either lowering springs or a custom grill

I think a new grille would be a waste of money if you're on a limited budget. As far as I know, they're running around $300, and in my opinion, the stock eggcrate grille looks great. Some suspension modifications will give you a lot of bang for your buck, as well as chipping it or going with the BSR PPC for a little more money.

Now the hard part... I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to this stuff. I don't really want a shop to do it b/c of cost. Is there an easier/best way to go solution? I have the sport package; is there much more to do with that?

Tires. At $500 you have a $125/wheel budget. Some Michelin PS2's maybe.

Or are you talking about bling.

I'd like to ask the same Q as the OP.

For non-bling, I was thinking sway-bars + strut tower brace.

      Thoughts?

Rear bar + strut tower brace is a good one. Front bar is less important (after upping the rear), and a lot harder to install. And, that leaves a couple hundred.

      I still say tires, though...

Sorry, gonna disagree with everyone here - get the most bang for your buck -

DO88 IC and Silicone coolant hoses.

Get the best of long term ownership with best gas mileage/power and eliminate the worry of the coolant hose split.

For the 2.4i since performance mods are out of the question, I’d say lighting. Upgrading the low beams to HIDs properly and even adding in better high beam bulbs make a huge difference. Doing the full LED conversion is also awesome and makes the car look and feel more modern, and can be done for well under 500$.

I also run an led light bar and two led flood lights for backroads driving at night. Huge difference.

The car definitely needs mods. Most people go for noticeable power adder mods first because its something you “notice”. If you go the tubing route, go with Hilton. Under $500. Go crazy—-!

Since this post is 15 years old, I suppose he has gone beyond ownership of this vehicle already.

Maybe, but regardless it’s still good for other users to see people’s thoughts (new buyers etc).

      Single mod under $500

iPd aluminum tray to protect under the engine. Add the mod of your choice with the rest of your budget; recommend iPd rear sway bar.
