That's been the knock on the DWS's which kept me from buying them as a replacement set. Then I bought the XC60 with a nearly new set of DWS06's already installed. I don't find them as confident in the rain as the Verde's but they're not awful. Happy to just run them till the "W" wears out. I do remember a couple reviews on The Rack about a tire or two failing, I think from a belt breaking. Process of elimination wise, it's worth it for the OP to get them checked out.

Well, compared to a C30 with dedicated summer tires, an SUV with all-season tires will be floaty. No question about it!
I looked the tires up, and they're all-season tires of a kind that you can't buy in Europe at all. Here we'd drive on dedicated summer tires this time of year, and they're a totally different kind of animal! My strong advice to the O.P. is swap the tires for something that's made for speed and handling!

Thanks guys. I am back from vacation and will get to examining everything in the afternoon when I replace my tie rod ends and sway bar end links. I would rather use a dedicated summer and snow, but am going to wait until I get another set of wheels. Looking for 20' Fast Fc04's or 20 ixions.

That said, I've got a normal T6 with the 18" wheels, and wouldn't say it "floats" a whole lot, even in comparison to my S70 that has Koni yellows and H&R springs... OP's alignment might need checking?
I rented a D4 2017 xc60 w20 inch wheels and it felt crisp compared to my t6 2009 with ipd sway bar. Less body roll and under-steer on 2017.
Hence if any chassis improvement is made was also my first reaction. Then I could try upgrade to the new feel.
Pity stereo and rear camera is still inferior with sensus. Also I dislike the black interior, roof and heavy electric steering.
Coming back to my old car though feels wobbly, floaty. T6 engine still feels great!

I understand that much there's often a lot of differences between European tires and the rubber you guys drive on across the pond. A lot of the SUV's in the U.S. are on all weather/all season

I cant think so, I have same tires and they are great
+1 I run DWS on the C70 and GTI, and they are solid. Mostly, they give up a little grip in the summer. That said, I have stuck with the Scorpion Verdes on the XC60. We have the stock 18" and no mods and it is neither floaty, nor understeering. Of course, it's not as planted as the C70, but quite respectable.

As to what could be wrong, I'm at a loss. I will say, the easiest improvement in handling is to go plus 1 on the wheels. I've driven two stock C70s with 18s and they corner as solidly as mine with 17s and many mods. But RD is stock with 20s, no?

2009 Hilton Stage 2 C70 M66 Passion Red/Graphite/Aluminum - Quaife LSD installed! Has anyone else noticed gear whir in 3rd and 4th? Or a "clunk" from the SPEC SMF and R clutch (or front LCA poly bushings?) at startup?

I have 20 inch stock Cratus wheels. The car is handling much better now. I had it realligned 2x's because the alignment shop screwed up. The camber on my rear right was WAY off. They got it all back into spec. I also put in new front Hd links, and new outer tie rod ends. I do agree though, if I wanted an even better planted set up, I would purchase summer performance tires. The old Bridgestone Potenzas I had were amazing on my C30. What do you guys recommend for tires? I never liked my hankooks, nor Khumos! I have only really liked the Potenzas and the Contis.

Looks like we're up to PS4's. I agree. Or the PS A/S 3's. Please note: NOT Pilot Super Sports.

      Correct,

I was in a Focus RS racing around Mantorp Park Sweden last year and he was using PS2's . Totally blew me away with the grip so I bought a set for my 04 V70R. As expected, they were an absolute delight !
