I am amazed how much better 4.4 seems to be than 4.3. My 850s take forever to start but this thing starts just as fast as the '99. Awesome.

When you respray the rear bumper, are you redoing an R bumper for the front?

Perfos do not look bad on that car at all, but Volans just enhance the aesthetic of it so much.

On another note, lowkey I do kinda like my Columbas, but I'm so excited to get the silver Volans on my 855. The combo is going to really turn a few heads.

Always had a soft spot for those thick five spoke Volvo rims... Volans would be nice but I'd be afraid of cracking them on horrible Virginia roads.

LMAO to be quite frank with you our roads aren't so wonderful either so I don't mind taking my time getting them on, but I'd like to think by now I've gotten pretty good at pothole dodging. All I'm waiting on is coming into a somewhat decent set of 205/45/17 tires, but I'm spending money on everything but

      205s are the wrong size.

6 months into the model run Volvo realized this and changed to 215/45/17s.

MUCH better riding, look 1000 times better and have a less chance of bending a wheel or ruining a tire

+1. I've also heard people have issues with 205s holding air that were resolved with a switch to 215s.

Yes! Unfortunately some tire places still have this incorrect information (as well as other volvo tire mixups) and take issue with selling/mounting sizes they dont have listed as correct for the vehicle. Yes, most people are clueless about tires so this is helpful but just let me acknowledge that I am mounting a "non stock size" and lets take it from there.

Besides all that 205s are just way too small for the car. Dinky little tire in the wheel wells
No idea what Volvo was thinking back then...

And higher flowing injectors. Do the 850Rs have a different exhaust manifold than the S70 T5s? Definitely would consider a turbo swap if I part out my T5. I don't know if they use the same shape flange though, I believe the '98 T5 are angled, not sure about the R

Work and life man. Just passed 5k on the tires and rotated them. Short version: very good, rides good, quiet, seem to hold air pretty well. I can make them misbehave but theyre not supposed to be PSS and i certainly made the AS3+ misbehave. Linear loss of grip at the limit of traction and quiet but present tire squeal when you push them there. Rain, excellent, dry, excellent, phenominal when its colder, actually legit on sand and gravel, smooth above 3 digit speed and braking is on par with the best. I have been wondering if its my perception or the grip having a tendency to fall off above 85 degrees but its more likely the sandy roads in Maine at the moment.

TLR killer grip for the $ and they seem to be on target to last 40k on a high horsepower heavy fwd car.

Nice! Sounds like a glowing review. Good for a heavy AWD car or wagon too? I do love my pole positions but with your expertise I'd be willing to give a set a try. Aired, aligned, balanced and rotated do you think they'd go 50k or more on a light foot? Do they clean up well? I've had dry tires that just were the pits (gyear) and gooey soft ones that looked great but wore away like a 3rd grader's pencil eraser (gyear), though that may have been a 19 year old's foot- NOT light). Upper end bridge stones have served me well for the better part of 25 years now aside from a nice set of michelins I put on the Honda wagon and the 99.

And no, for anyone who may read this, 205/60/15 is not the right size for an XC or a standard V70.

So my dad discovered some SE badges on ebay and is apparently thinking about actually badging it as a T5 SE.  Thoughts?

I say go for it! It's optioned (colours withstanding) just like my T5 SE plus heated rear seats and minus wood steering wheel and shift knob

I agree that an SE badge would be appropriate. Only things it's missing is the wood wheel and shift knob but then again I've never seen those in karelian birch anyway so I don't think they exist.

Big Will has the wheel in his V70 and Justin had it in his Saffron C70, and Justin also had the shift knob. I've seen quite a few more birch shift knobs than I've seen wheels. Could be that neither existed yet in 10/96 though.

I think that's more than appropriate. Is he going to replace the "T" while he's at it?

To cleaning up the leather including the wheel use simple green and lexol. I had a lot of luck cleaning the leather by spraying it with diluted simple green and using a horse hair brush to work it in than wipe it with a microfiber cloth. Next spray on lexol cleaner and wipe with a microfiber cloth. Last use Lexol conditioner to protect it. I picked up the horse hair brush at walmart in the shoe section.

Will try this on mine as I have all but the lexol.

My usual photo spots near my house are always jammed during the summer so I decided to try a new spot to get some decent shots of it on the Volans with zLines. Should have stopped it down a little more so you could see the Boston skyline and the windmill that is 100 yards from my typical photo spot.

Only have like 50 miles on the zLines so far so I'm not pushing them at all yet but initial impressions are pretty good. Need to see what springs this car has in it because this setup doesn't feel quite as nice over larger imperfections as my T-5R does. It does seem to cope better with very small imperfections and less ideal road surfaces, but I suspect that may have more to do with the rubber subframe bushings than anything else. We took it over our favorite akward road surface transition yesterday and it didn't feel quite as planted as my T-5R does.....not sure what that's about yet.

I would just use water and a toothbrush to clean the steering wheel as you don't want to risk stripping the tan coloring off of it. I use this method on my XC OR steering wheel every few months and it works very well.

If you have a spare wheel, pull it and send it to me.
I can have it refinished for about 50-$60 to look literally like new.

Get a rear spoiler on it, paint those bumpers and you will have an almost one of a kind P80 wagon!

      Oh, and side marker lights

Would that also apply to a R wheel?
