      Air Suspension Failure

      I have a 2017 T6 Inscription. Air suspension quit working yesterday. At start-up and while backing, heard loud tapping rattle at a consistent interval from rear then received "suspension requires serving"'aleart and notification that issue was logged. Air suspension does not activate at driving mode change or with rear button. Everything else on car works; albeit car rides rougher. Headed to dealer tomorrow. Just wondering if others have experienced and what might have happened. I have an excellent dealer, so I'm hopeful for quick repair. I have a little over 10k miles on car.

      Interested to see what the dealer finds regarding your air suspension. At least the car is able to be driven until you can get ot the dealer. Like the air suspension on my 2018.

      To date. I've heard of 3 air suspension failures from our customer base. All required changing at least 1 air suspension assembly. Won't be cheap!

      The air suspension on my 2016 R-Design had all four air-shocks replaced. I recently took my neighbors to the dealer while she is in France and she had the fronts replaced on her 2016 XC90 R-Design. Both were less than 25k.

      The ambient temp sensor is a common failure. Our family's 2017 Momentum Plus is going in next week to have the sensor replaced. All 3 of the XC90s will now have had it replaced.

      I left my 2018 in the sun today, specifically the left side mirror got a lot of sun light, and the temperature reading showed around the ambient temp, good to know they fixed it

      For those that have the Air Suspension in their XC90, would you keep the vehicle beyond the warranty period? I suspect it will be an expense repair (though depending on the component failure). Has this system been deployed in other Volvos?

      OP, while not ideal, at-least you are able to drive it.

      I got my XC90 back from the Volvo service department with the air suspension off and jacked up high. They did fix it, but didn't admit to anything.

      What do you mean "off and jacked up high" The service department would indicate on the service order what they did under warranty regarding the air suspension.

      they didn't deactivate it before putting it on a lift. This is like Air Suspension 101. Find another dealer.

      An update: Car repaired, air pump for air suspension failed. First failure the dealer had seen.

      This thread is giving me flashbacks to my Range Rover, it's air suspension was constantly broken. I did opt for the air suspension on my 2018 order. Maybe I'll be buying an extended warranty.

      No, and that's the biggest reason why I would avoid it, at least until they have the bugs worked out. YMMV.

      A little late to the party...
      I also had the "Air Suspension Failure" in the first 6month/10K on my 2017. After 4 days of the suspension not moving and the warning message every time I drove, the message disappeared and full function returned the morning that the dealership came to pick up the car or service (figures).. They claimed it was a software issue and an update was made to resolve... ~3 months and no reoccurrence.

      Is it normal for the air suspension to make a whirring/rattling sound when it lowers? When I get out after parking the car or use the buttons in the trunk, I can hear more noise than I would expect.

      If you hear the compressor running while it lowers that's normal.

      This is the real problem! Can confirm that after many hot days of Oklahoma summer we had a sudden cool spell that freaked the sensor out and caused this message to pop up. This sensor needs better calibration for places like Oklahoma where if you don't like the weather.... just wait a few minutes!

      all of it. Treat CPO as an extension of the original warranty. Now if you have some aftermarket extended warranty I cant help you there.

      20k miles got the dreaded suspension failure message starting the car in the garage. Car towed to dealership and I'm told all that was needed was a Software update?! I used to have the script end rattle but haven't noticed it. I was going to bring the car in for throttle lag (despite polestar) and for false alerts for city safety anyway and i'm told all of the above were fixed with software updates? After doing some heavy searching on the forum doesn't sound right to me.

      Man, a failure message should not equal a software update! I wonder if there was an issue that didn't present itself when brought in, and they did a software update and figured it was all good. With air suspension, it isn't if you will have a problem but rather when. Had it on my last 4 cars, and currently have on my BMW. Went without it on this rig as I didn't find it necessary, and one less thing to worry about. When you have to drive 200 miles home with an air suspension failure and the car sitting on the bump stops, the novelty wears off quickly!
